Ince Rose Bridge 18 v 30 Leigh Miners

Leigh Miners got back to winning ways yesterday afternoon with a hard fought 30-18 victory against local rivals Ince Rose Bridge at Pinfold Street, finally picking up their first away league win of the season to move them up a place to seventh while Rose Bridge drop down to fourth. The home side opened the scoring against the run of play with Miners having the better of the opening stages attacking the Bridge line a kick through on the last tackle was charged down and Bridge went the length of the field to score under the posts to lead the game 6-0. Miners responded with a try from u18s centre Ryan Ravenscroft, Jonny Youds converting to tie the scores up at 6-6. John Woods put Miners in front after about thirty minutes with a try in the left corner but Bridge replied just before half time with a try on the right to level the score at 10-10 going into the break.

Ince scored the opening try of the second half to take the lead for a second time at 16-10 but soon after Miners were level after some strong defence forcing Bridge into an error in their own twenty, Liam Coleman went through a gap to score at the side of the posts, Youds converting to give the score 16-16. As the game went into the final quarter the next try was vital, but before a try was scored both teams exchanged penalty goals firstly young half back Josh Ward nudged Miners in front at 18-16 followed by an Ince penalty goal a minute later to level the scores for a fourth time at 18-18. The game breaker came when Lee Gittins broke down the left to send in hooker Aaron Gorton for a fourth Miners try. Youds converting to give Miners a six point lead at 24-18 with only a few minutes remaining. Dave Rowlands made sure of the victory late on charging over from close range at the side of the posts, Youds adding his fourth goal of the match to give the final score 30-18.

Great game for the neutrals. Pats scored under the posts in the last min (which to be truthful would have been an injustice.)Only for the linesman to pull it back for a forward pass, to amaze all inc the skirlaugh coaching staff. Touchie hope you can sleep at night ??.
