Another win and another good defensive display,if we can get the attack to click then we are going places.

Well done to the fans who made it, another good turn out

A strange game really, we were never in danger of losing but it took us until the second half to pull away. The lads looked a bit like they'd had no game for a spell and needed the game to get to speed.

The pitch and club was very good indeed, they're good homely folk at Gateshead and can't do enough for you. I sat in the bar with Don so I didn't have to try and get up the high paddock steps and the Guinness was good there. Once we got away they really put the foot on the gas. There was one unsavoury moment when Thunder crashed over under the black dot and the ref immediately gave the sign for not grounded, the 'scorer' got up and pushed his weight about and a scrap ensued. When the officials got it sorted it was one yellow each and a red for a Thunder player.

The weather was good up there and all in all it was a good day with a decent result. I think we now have two weeks until the next game which is ridiculous when you think that back in January we were postponing games for frozen pitches. Let's start later and play every week, I know the NR Cup Final is one reason and the 'Magic' weekend another but we don't need to have a free week do we??

It will be interesting to find out what the incident with Dale Bloomfield was about, he got up and was awarded a penalty but clearly was upset and spoke to the TJ who spoke with the ref and the incident was put on report?!?!?! Dale was clearly indicating the back of his neck though.

A good turnout from the fans as well.

Three weeks Puggie North Wales at Spotland 22nd July!

Three weeks Puggie North Wales at Spotland 22nd July!

I thought we had Whitehaven at home on 15th? But looking at the website its now 29th! I agree with Puggy on that score.
June & July dont really get going.. I hope the lads and Stanky can keep the intesity up in training. I know most of the lads want gamedays at the end of a training week so keeping the focesed must be a tough task this month.

Got to really echo my comments from last week, in May i couldnt see how we where progressing on the pitch, given that this is (on paper) the best squad Stanky has recruited at Spotland (his words not mine). I questioned the defence in our 25, where it seemed if a team got there, it was just a matter of time before they scored.
The 0 (Gateshead or not) is the pleasing thing as Oldhams BP gains could of come up to bite us later in the rounds.

Well done to all the lads yesterday, a great result..
having three weeks off now seems crazy looking back to the early part of the season. I hope some of the players can get away and see some sun for a week, come back refreshed and ready for a big end to the season?

Personally I think Oldham have shot their bolt on promotion given their loss yesterday and their run-in from now on with perhaps Gateshead the on 'nailed on' win. Now it's up to us to run Whitehaven down to stop a clean sweep of Cumbrian clubs gaining promotion!

This is why I have been against the Bonus Point from day one. I know we all play every other team but just say Oldham play Barrow away when they are at full strength and get walloped and then we play them a couple of months later when their place is determined, or they have some serious injury crisis and we only get beaten by 10. Where is the honesty in this. A defeat is a defeat and should not be rewarded in any way whatsoever.

Hornets actually did well out of them last season and I was still against them, to reward failure is ridiculous.

I had a glance at the table last night and it looks very tight on passing 'Haven but it is possible if the lads pull their tripe out and graft for the rest of the seaon, but we must beat 'Haven, Crusaders, Scorpions, Skolars and one of the Barrow and Town games. 'Haven do have a game in hand though so that could be the deciding factor. Mind you, if the RFL send the Bulls down to the Championship One then promote one of the Championship clubs to SL we would need an extra one to make the Championship up so the fifth could be promoted. FAT CHANCE!!!!

Great performance by the boys yesterday, Unfortunatly couldn't make it due to other committments.

Regarding chasing down Whitehaven to get promoted.

According to the Championship One table both Hornets & Whitehaven have played 12 games, and we are 6 points adrift of them.

This means we have to defeat them at Spotland by 12 points or more (that dreadful bonus point issue again), win all of our outsatanding games, and hope Whitehaven lose at least one more game, and don't get any further bonus points. Provided our points difference continues to improve that would mean automatic promotion.

But its down to other results going in our favour, and the defeat at South Wales Scorpions may well come back to haunt us.

The Co-Operative Championship 1
Gateshead v London Skolars, 14:00
London Skolars v Rochdale, 15:00
Rochdale v Crusaders, 15:00
South Wales v Oldham, 15:00
South Wales v Crusaders, 15:00

The Beeb really have to try and catch up! The above is what I have just copied and pasted from their RL page.

It looks like the guy running the Beeb website will probably get the open job at the RL at this rate.
