Just wanted to post this bit of information on here in case anyone fancies a day out on Saturday, taken from our website:-

Come along and enjoy a great day of rugby league action at St Albans Centurions.

Saturday 7th July sees the St Albans Centurions 'Day of Rugby League' taking place at our Toulmin Drive ground.

We have rugby league from the under 6 age group (Minis) right up to the senior team taking on Hemel Stags. The day starts off at aprox. 11.30am with the 'St Albans Centurions Mini Rugby League Tournament' which includes Minis teams from all over the south east competing at U6, U7, U9 and U11 age groups.

St Albans Centurions junior teams will also be playing, as follows,
Cents U12's v Elmbridge Eagles, kick off 10.30am
Cents U14's v Richmond Warriors, kick off 11.30am
Cents U16's v Eastern Rhinos, kick off 12.40pm

Then, to finish the day, St Albans Centurions take on local rivals Hemel Stags in their National Conference League match, kick off 3pm.

There will be barbeque, a cake stall, ice cream van, Centurions merchandise sale, snacks and soft drinks, a beer tent and fun and games. The London Broncos are sending along players and cheerleaders, and mascots Buck and Dusty will also be in attendance, so it promises to be a great day out.

Come along and support mini, junior and senior Rugby League in you community - go on, you know you want to.

(Now all we need is the weather.)

Damnit! I wanted an earlier kickoff!

EDIT:

The London Broncos are sending along cheerleaders

Well, I suppose you've convinced me to stay!

I had to miss the day as I was back at Fortress Pennine Way with a Charity Day. But I understand it was a great success.

Its difficult to believe we saw such a close encounter a few weeks back at Pennine Way.
That said Im told that Saints had a couple out.
Only got there 15 mins or so before the start of the main game but there seemed a decent
turn out, and there were still juniors games going on even as the main game started,

We knew it wasn't going to be as close as the game at Hemel. Seven players out with injuries and holidays (running with the bulls in Pamplona seems to have won out over a local derby), then we lost our captain when he had a migraine attack on the pitch, and when we were reduced to twelve men we knew we had had it ... but you have to hand it to Hemel, they were up for it and they won. They pounced on every loose ball and punished us at every infringement, and there was quite a few of those. Forunately all the other rugby on the day was excellent. Our Day of Rugby League was a great success, at the height of the minis festival and junior games, and despite the weather, I was told we had about 500 players/parent/spectators. It was great to see so many junior teams form the south east and the people who organised it and the volunteers who helped out deserve lots of paraise. Couple of photos from the minis (featuring st Albans , of course).

Exiled Townie ; The Stags had 7-8 missing too, so you can say it was even about players missing and you forgot to mention the Stags had 2 tries disallowed too which meant it could have been 60+ points. The game was close last time due to all the rain which made the contest more even but yeterday with a dry pitch the Stags showed thier class against a very poor St Albans team. Also your player got sent off when the score was about 44-0 so that didn't make much difference really, stop making excuses!!

Determination Is The Key Stop trying to change what is a thread about a great day of rugby league into a 'my dads bigger than your dad' contest. This anti St Albans tirade is showing yourself up for goodness sake. I think ET was answering a point brought up by Spicer. You are getting to be a rather tedious troll trying to derail any thread about St Albans. Why not comment something positive about all the junior teams taking part in the minis festival for a change?

I wasn't at the match but I have been told about the first team score. I was also told it was a great day with so many kids playing rugby league which isand I give St Albans a pat on the back for that. As a Hemel fan I can't stand St Albans making excuses for getting beat as that is the third time this season they have come up with excuses in the public domain either via their match reports of forums why they have lost the game and it detracts from the result whch in all three game has been won by the Stags and played quiet well.

This is a second YAWN to pre-empt your inability to know when others are bored with you hijacking threads and always wanting the last word. As I would say to my children when they will not stop....................SHUSH!

Ooof. Local rivalry in full effect. Even without players missing St Albans would have struggled, just like we struggled badly against Hemel and a few other times have this season as well. The Stags are an excellent team getting ready for the semi-pro leagues.

St Albans have done OK this season. For the record I was very impressed by their new set-up - with the clubhouse etc - and we received a very warm welcome. Top people, top club.

So less of the bitterness. Anyway, match reports on club websites are always one-eyed. I've written enough of those in my time :D
