On Sunday 1st July my son who is an adult season ticket holder at Dewsbury, decided to go to the Batley versus Leigh game. When he got to the turnstyle he presented his season ticket and passed the woman behind the turnstyle his £5,only to be told that entry to that game was £10 because Featherstone weren't playing. What an absolute disgrace!! and whats it got to do with Featherstone anyway??I was always led to believe that other than the Dewsbury versus Batley home and away, fans of Dewsbury could watch Batley home games for £5,and Batley fans could watch Dewsbury home games for £5.When Dewsbury played Halifax at home, did the Batley fans have to pay £10 to gain entry because Featherstone weren't playing?? I don't think so! At a time when money and support is hard to come by and dirty tricks like this are being played then clubs like Batley don't deserve any support or backing.

It was my understanding that if Dewsbury where not playing then then their season ticket holders could get in for £5 upon production of the ticket.
That was the case two years ago and I assumed that it still applied.
I'm a season ticket holder at Batley and can see your point.
Also your son should approach the club about this.
I also saw this happen to a junior Keighley supporter at the beginning of the year.

Speak to Paul Harrison. Wouldn't get too hyped up about it. If the offer still stands I'm sure he'll help your son.

But the match is gone now
not the first time this little mix up has happened at mount unpleasant
usual case of left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing
)
the offer has been in place a couple of seasons now and ALL your gate staff should be aware by this time.
when it happened to me i just turned around and walked away....and not gone back.
i find it strange you dont hear batley fans complaining how the fiver offer fails at our ground

I
I also saw this happen to a junior Keighley supporter at the beginning of the year.
One of our young uns was made to pay in despite having a junior season ticket that was supposed to cover all away games ...

They tried it on with me, until I informed the woman on the turnstile that Paul Hull had told me it was a fiver
She didn`t seem to know what to charge

People make mistakes at all clubs. Was there not a thread not so long ago with Dewsbury supporters complaining about the actions of Dewsbury stewards at a Dewsbury game on this messageboard. Why didn't the Dewsbury supporter who attended the Batley v Leigh match speak to a Batley club official on Sunday? But the match is gone now

The reason you do not hear Batley supporters complaining about the fiver offer because the majority of Batley supporters(like the majority of Dewsbury Supporters) would realise it was a human error and would have sorted it out on the day. Not waited until Tuesday to moan about it.

I too went with my father to the Batley v Leigh game and was initially told it was £5 , then when the gate man had my tenner in his hand he said he had made a mistake and all clubs were now charging £10.00 . It didn't bother me too much i and just accepted my fate , however I've watched Dewsbury for over thirty years ( a season ticket holder for most ) and can honestly say that even when Dewsbury may be losing in games, there is more atmosphere in our ground than when I watch Batley at home even when they are winning. ps My father is the Batley Fan .

The actions of the stewards at Dewsbury is a completely differant issue than this thread.Stewards don't run the turnstyles.Just making the point that this offer has been going on for at least 2 seasons so to just dismiss it as a mistake when it isn't the first time its happened looks pretty bad on your club.As for talking to an official at the club what would that achieve?? Absolutely nothing. The official needs to be talking to your turnstyle staff so they have some sort of clue whats happeningPeople make mistakes at all clubs. My husband has been using his season ticket for another club at Batley all season when his club haven't got a game and only been charged a fiver everytime. It's funny how its only Dewsbury fans who have this problem, or is it just an opportunity to have a pop at our club. As for the atmosphere, again good attempt at trying to find something you're better at. It would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

Simple answer - don't go to Batley if you are a Dewsbury fan.

Yes, it's sometimes a problem creating a good atmosphere when you only attract relatively small crowds inside a ground that holds 7000 people where fans have the option of standing or sitting on all 4 sides of the arena. When you only attract relatively small crowds inside a ground that holds circa 3000 fans and fans only have the option of standing or sitting on only two sides of the arena, fans are forced to pack the same areas which may then lead to a better atmosphere.
As for the original posters thread title of 'DISGUSTED!', I suggest he/she gets out more. Annoyed? Maybe. Bemused, perhaps? Irritated? Possibly. 'DISGUSTED!'? Nah.

What I'm looking for is someone who can contribute to what England has given to the world: culture, sophistication, genius. A little bit more than an 'ot dog, know what I mean?

But the fact of the matter is it isn't just Dewsbury fans who have this problem,a junior season ticket holder at Keighley was made to pay when all juniors with season tickets get free entry. My husband has been using his season ticket for another club at Batley all season when his club haven't got a game and only been charged a fiver everytime. Yet more Ostrich behaviour from the Ratite stadium faithful, problem solve the issues at your own tip, before exploring alternative avenues. Still heads are buried in the sand.

I think if this is a consistent problem then it needs looking at. It could easily be sorted out by speaking to a club official who should then make it clear what our policy is for admissions.
However, it's dubious when a poster makes his point on a public forum two days after the event. If you want the system to be improved, is this really the place to do it.
And as for the post about atmosphere in the ground, how is that possibly related to the thread? Read Haroldshand's reply as an appropriate response.

So you have testimony from several individuals (not all rams fans) stating that they were overcharged by gate staff and you choose to write this off as batley bashing, if that isnt burying your head in the sand i dont know what is.
Do you genuinely think that a child would argue with a gate steward or go looking for a club official?
A simple post on the club website clarifying Batley's charging policy would surely suffice.

In the interests of fairness, I would like to add a non anecdotal report. I attended the game with my son and was assisted through the gates by two thoroughly pleasant stewards. I was then guided to a rather large parking space which enabled easy access for my rather troublesome child. In todays society It seems to be the norm to abandon children however this is not my way. If anyone had tried overcharge myself or my child, I would have spoken up. The previous accusations are not testimony but mud slinging. Maybe Batley do need a supposed journalist to issue press statements on their behalf, castigating the gate staff and demoralising aged volunteers. This may be the Dewsbury way but I hope it never becomes the Batley way. The Batley site is updated personally at least once a week so I see no problem. To paraphrase Wink Martindale.I know this stories true, I was that spectator.

In fairness, he was an adult season ticket holder, which would imply that he was an adult and therefore would be able to discuss with other adults the issue!

I was referring to the junior ticket holder from keighley.
Im not one of the Batley Bashers and to be honest im quite envious of the setup that Batley have in place but there is
a genuine issue here that can be easily remedied with a response from the club.
