DEWSBURY Rams are hoping last Friday’s impressive victory away to York City Knights will kick start a charge for the Co-operative Championship play-offs.
Dewsbury lie just outside the top-six, four points behind Keighley and five behind fifth-placed Leigh Centurions, with crucial away games against their two rivals to come.
Dewsbury do not play this week due to the Northern Rail Cup semi-finals but return to action next Friday with a vital trip to Leigh.
Coach Warren Jowitt was delighted with last week’s victory at York, which saw the Rams end a five-match losing run.
He said: “We have got as good a chance as anyone of making the top six now but we must remain focused.
“If we can get something out of our next two games against Leigh and Swinton, the ball would be in our court going to Keighley and it would then be down to us to determine the outcome.
“There was a lot of pressure on the players and myself going into the York game and we played like we were under pressure but thankfully we got the win and I was pleased in the manor which we came back to do it.
“We were very anxious and made a few mistakes. We were 10-0 up at half-time and it should have been more.
“We then had a five minute lull in the second half when they scored three quickfire tries to lead 18-10.
“We got back on top in the last 15 minutes, although it was nailbiting near the end because of our mistakes.”
Last Friday was particularly pleasing for centre Ryan Esders as he scored a brace of tries against his former club
Full-back James Craven continued his impressive form and caused York problems each time he came into the attacking line and he was rewarded with two tries.
Jowitt has not given up hope of adding to his squad before the transfer deadline of July 14 but he is confident the players he has at the club are capable of a top-six finish.
He added: “We should have beaten Leigh at home when two mistakes cost us but we will go into that game with bags of confidence and the players are certainly up for it.”
The Rams trained hard this week, despite having no game, but they will get time to relax together tonight when they go out ten-pin bowling.
Jowitt will be hoping his side can strike gold in the final six matches of the season and book a place in the play-offs.
n The supporters club bus to Leigh next Friday leaves Tetley’s Stadium at 5.30pm and Dewsbury bus station at 5.45pm. To book call Elsie on 01924 444407.

I take it our remaining fixtures are to be played on fantasy island with the entire wishes used up of all the rams fans...weve entered the part of the season where someone believes 7 straight victorys will suddenly appear if by magic like last season..which they didnt.and again like last season i was proved right..the victory streak of 2 seasons ago was a FLUKE.
Im at the thin lizzy stage of the season....
cos i dont believe a word

I hope you've left some whisky in the jar. You sound like your sorrows need drowning.

Where does it say we need 7 straight wins? It says we have a chance which we do, an outside chance maybe but better than last season

Its becoming the annual battle cry towards the end of season from the coaching staff...we can make the playoffs when in reality sixth is a bridge too far i feel.the keighley game will define our season...defeat will result in a fail to reach the playoffs by my view weve only 8 or 9 more points to be gained this season...and that will not be enough

We've only got 6 games left! Optimisitically if we could get 9 points (Beat Swinton (h) & Hunslet (a) and get a point against Sheff, Batley & Keighley) we would have 27 Points. Keighley have 22 already and a 160 point pull in points diff. Their next game is York (H) .Leigh have 23 already and a 170 point pull and they won't slip up.Who knows we might beat Batley & Sheffield. But I tend to agree with Coolie, we have to beat Keighley. Still possible but it will be tough. Keighley have a tough run in after the York game, 2 home (Us &Leigh) 4 away (Fev,Leigh,Swinton,Sheff).

And if we don't?

The target for the season was to make the play offs
as said the aim was the play-offs,a simple task given the quality of opposition & the look of our squad
rule one in life
dont promise what ya a.rse cant deliver..if so sharp swords have to be fallen on
the squad was more than capable to deliver a top 6 place
i may be wrong..and will say sorry if i am,but we wont reach the top 6
and you can quote me on that at the end of the season.

So what you are saying is , you expected us to make the top 6 this season but we have failed miserably in your eyes?

Too true Coolie, You prob will beat York and Hunslet , but your more like LImehouse Lizzy, ( the Thin Lizzy copy band ) as the real Thin Lizzy are no more, and i don't believe a word of the Jailbreak your planning winning 7 games on the trot, can't see that .
Good luck at Leigh i do hope you beat them, not being funny but can't see you winning that one, or Sheffield or Batley for that matter.Keighley Yes think you will beat them though.

And in any other season our ambitions would be limited to avoiding the drop - like next year in fact. And if we don't?
