If you could pick just one player from Batley's past to return and play (as they did), who would you have?

It'd be lazy to just say 'Glen Tomlinson' IMO, so I'll plump for Chris McWilliams. Plucked from absolute obscurity, and outstanding virtually everytime he played. Defied the pain barrier to give his all for the club on so many occasions.
What I'm looking for is someone who can contribute to what England has given to the world: culture, sophistication, genius. A little bit more than an 'ot dog, know what I mean?

Henry Oulton, just because I once saw him growl at a Blackpool Borough player who was running up the wing, he terrified him so much the lad just stopped and threw the ball anywhere over his shoulder.
I grew up watching Henry and he was brilliant to watch, whether kicking goals from all over the pitch to getting sent off for something daft, he was always entertaining.

Paul gearey.once watched him score 4 tries at the mount,3 going uphill, against workington.also the 'gearey move' was virtually unstoppable.

Mick Cameron for me. Legend. Although I did have a lot of time for Darren Moxon as well.
Although it'd obviously be Tommo.

Tommo in his prime would be great again, but I'd McGilvery

Bolu Fagborun anyone?
Sounds strange but I always liked Ryan Horsley, thought he was really underrated and made into a bit of a scapegoat in the end. His workrate was really up there and also had a decent pair of hands, something loose forwards don`t seem to have at the moment.
Craig Wright would also be useful. I`d like to see the Fev pack bully him, Walmsley, Hirst, Green, Smith etc

Was it Swinton away that stopped Geary one year when he was on a great scoring run of about 16 in 8 (figures are definatley wrong, memory has gone) when he got injured in the first few minutes, may have been in the John Player where, I think Damien McGrath missed a touchline conversion to draw the game at the death. I still think Geary was nobbled that day.
It'd be great to see us try the old Geary move now and again. As you say would be virtually unstoppable, maybe get Alex W in the Geary position.

Id have Mick Booth back without question.
Or Craig Wright.

What we're dealing with here is a complete lack of respect for the law

Tommo would be the obvious choice.
Other than that I'd go for Chris McWilliams, Roger Simpson and Mick Booth.

One from a long, long time ago.....
Norman Field- scored tries for fun in a really poor Batley team. Hand off like a piston and sidestep like Benji Marshall.

my late father's first hero of the mount.....he told me that Field would line up the opposite winger, give him half a yard on the outside, then everyone would shout 'put 'im in't chip machine' and Field would blast the poor chap into touch and the old iron railings that surrounded the pitch, nearly dicing him upOne from a long, long time ago.....

Didn't he end Roger Millward's great career with a cowardly attack to the jaw during an A team game up at the Mount one Saturday? Heard he was a bit of rabscallion.

Phil Doyle would be my to play, what a loose forward, if my adled brain is right, he used to stand out of the pack when defending and in when attacking.
Thinking back to Henry Oulton I seemed to remember he seemed to manage to be sidelined when the opposition had scored, come shooting back on and take the restart just as the opposition where back on side but not organised.

If I had to choose a player to add to the Rams current squad, it would have been that irritating little scrum half/hooker from the 90's and noughties that ended up at hunslet - can't remember his name but he always did us over.Phil Doyle would be my to play, what a loose forward, if my adled brain is right, he used to stand out of the pack when defending and in when attacking.

I didn't get to too many A team games so don't know if he ended Millward's career.
I seem to recall he would run from one wing to the other just to put a sneaky boot in if there was a flair up.
Rapscallion sums him up perfectly.
If I can be indulged and have another pick it would be John Carroll, just for the game we won at Wakefield where he controlled the match as though he was some sort of puppet master, I cannot remember the final score but we weren't expected to get close. Carroll destroyed Wakefield that day and on the way home I remember the report on Radio Leeds saying if we continued to follow Carroll we would be certs for promotion. That day he was untouchable from Loose Forward.
