At the risk of sending John D prematurely bald, and seeing as its over 2 weeks till the next deadline, I'm throwing a bulls thread out there.

I was reading in the T&A last night about the consortium looking to take over the Bulls. It said it consists of 'the bloke who owns Akbars' and a 'group of local property developers'. Seeing as they want the lease back on Odsal, am I being overly suspicious in wondering if they have other plans for Odsal and moving the Bulls to Valley Parade?

Well?

Since this request came to light I too have become suspicious.

I'm now viewing this situation at arms length.

I think you're right to be worried.

Just as a for instance and "fun and games" - what if the consortium wanted to go ahead with taking the Bulls on, but only on the condition that the RFL sold them back Odsal.

Should the RFL trust the new consortium not to redevelop Odsal as anything other than the Bulls' home?

What would Bradford fans' views be if the RFL refused and the consortium deal fell through?
It's not a question of coming down to earth, Mr Duxbury. Some of us, Mr Duxbury, belong in the stars.

Its quite obvious that the consortium are looking at this as a money making venture but if it secures the future of the BB why not.CM

You are correct,if it all does go ahead the Bulls will play at Valley parade and Odsal will be sold to the highest bidder.

BULLS TO HOLD MASSIVE STOCK CLEARANCE SALE

Bradford Bulls will hold a massive Stock Clearance Sale on Friday and Saturday of this week as it seeks to bring cash into the club to pay for day to day running costs of the business in the short term.

Whilst positive dialogue is continuing with the group of Bradford businessmen the Bulls till need hard cash to continue to pay for sundry items.

Bulls interim CEO Gary Tasker said today:

“We need to raise as much money in the short term as possible. This will pay the ongoing costs, such as pitch markings, stationary, coach travel and staff wages etc. to make the business viable in the immediate future.

We’re sat on £50,000 worth of merchandise and we need to convert that into cash to keep the wheels moving. We’re planning a giant sale but, going forward, we’re not going to be a club that asks for something for nothing. As ever, we’ll give value for money and we need to convert stock into cash at cost-price or less. We’ll be doing this on Friday and Saturday.”

The Bulls shop will be open as normal on Friday and Saturday and there will be plenty of bargain opportunities – with every item in the catalogue available at discount prices – for Bulls supporters to purchase.

Call me cynical but could this be to make way for merchandise with a new logo?

What like they bought the lease for odsal and went public about it being an iconic venue, this could be a real blocker for them and possibly may come back and bite.

I'd be worried although the speed that things get built in Bradford will lead me to think that Odsal would be around for many, many years before anything got done to it.

That was exactly my first thought.

Plus, what on earth could you do with Odsal?

Isn't this the problem, they have stood still? I assume they are buying stationery as well

This concerns me too. One of the reasons (excuses..?) given for the sale to the RFL in the first place was that there were people sniffing around Odsal who wanted the land but probably didn't have the club's best interest at heart. This new deal seems like it might be something similar. Hopefully it isn't, and I'd trust the RFL to make the right choice when push comes to shove

Isn't this key though? The only way the consortium will want to take over, is if they can somehow make a profit. I don't know of any new business venture that sets up to make a loss with no prospect of profit.
How do they make a profit? Sell Odsal to the highest bidder and then offload the Bulls to a future investor or let the club die.

I would be heartbroken if I was a Bulls supporter.

There are several other consortia that are also keen to buy the club. The consortium that has been widely publicised certainly isn't the only one.

Surprising that it has taken so long to dispose of liquid assets like merchandise stock. Guilfoyle clearly wasn't too thorough or he would have announed this before the Broncos game when he had 10,000 passing right by the shop.

On the lease front, again there appears to have been some game playing going on.

Bulls had the one asset and were in financial difficulty. Maybe they touted the asset around and there were buyers. They then made the RFL aware they had received offers, which prompted the RFL to snap it up.

The story of predators being around was clearly drummed up, but has come to pass just 7 months later.

Now the club is practically belly up, the RFL is in a very difficult position.

None of the other alleged buyers were primarily motivated by wanting to keep Odsal as a rugby league stadium and didin't have a vested interest in the sport.

The RFL has £1.25m sunk in and the only potential buyer of the club doesn't want to pay what will surely be a very favourable market rent.

They could easily re-negotiate the lease terms and avoid the investment required, and they can also squeeze the RFL to drop the purchase price.

The potential buyers hold all the cards. I don't think the RFL can take the risk. The purchase will have been pointless, and they will get slaughtered if they sell the protection the Bulls have moving forward.

The only other option is for central funding to keep the Bulls going until other buyers can be found. Guilfoyle can keep issuing his deadlines & the rFL can keep advancing Sky money ad infinitum. The problems will be in sorting the squad and admin side for 2013 onwards. Those doing it for free now won't carry on for too much longer I'd have thought..

You have to credit the last but one Bulls board, it certainly milked every penny it could before the crash.
