Rugby's going on the red button so we can continue to watch some 4th rate golf tournament on the main channel. Which is very helpful for us overseas viewers who don't get the red button.
Astute analysis from a Wigan fan:

Rumour going around Headingley that Wire will have to play the second half with 12 men.

It seems that they forgot to bring the half time oranges, and Solomona ate Chris Bridge instead.

Don't know why he was hungry, as he looked as though he had eaten the whole youth team before the game started.

I remember this happening in the dark days of Steve Rider and - God help us - Inverdale, I thought the BBC were past this to be honest.

The match has not started yet and the conspiracy theorists are out. I wonder what chance it goes on main channel b4 match kicks off.

The real contempt was shown when they decided to stick an advert in after the golf had finished.

I imagine that focussing on a designated kick-off time is an important part of a squads dressing room preparation. I bet both coaches are livid, an quite rightly.
What I'm looking for is someone who can contribute to what England has given to the world: culture, sophistication, genius. A little bit more than an 'ot dog, know what I mean?

Golf is a middle class bore = BBC full coverage
Tennis is a middle class bore = BBC full coverage
RL is a filler for us = hire a (retired) droning old fart to do commentry, shove it on instead of testcard

BBC treating RL as a second class sport, no surprise there then.

In terms of interest it is.Given similar things have happened to other sports (including tennis and golf) fail to see what the problem is.

I don't see the problem, they have been showing the golf for 4 days and the game is on the main channel for kick off.

It's not as if any of the coverage has been scrapped; a full programme has been aired. Let's face it, if there was a golf game after the RL and they missed the last ten mins to switch to it, we'd be peeved. We can't expect the golf to be severed when they've covered it for four days and it started first. There is no class conspiracy here.

I agree, but it will not prevent the people unable to react objectively from screaming 'RL being treated with contempt by the BBC'..

Agreed. Much of the population has access to digital TV and the red button.

Who said anything about a class conspiracy? You've just made that up.

You're right, the golf has had four days worth of coverage - RL gets that in 4-5 years.

Erm, above there are posts above talking about RL being a second class sport. So, no, I haven't. Wormer's post also brings social class into it, as if the BBC give preference to so-called middle class sports.

You're right, the golf has had four days worth of coverage - RL gets that in 4-5 years.

The tournament lasts four days, the Wire/Hudds game lasts 80 mins, all of which will be shown on television.

That RL gets less coverage on the BBC is not an issue related to today's coverage.

JB, I understand you must be miffed as you're abroad, but this really is something that couldn't be helped. It has happened several times with other sports on the BBC and on Sky. Next time, get the missus to come here instead! ;)
