Many a time this season it has been said "there's nothing to play for this season, its all about concentrating on next season"
While the statement is true what worries me is that when rugby players take to the field they won't have this attitude, so what you are seeing week in week out is this squad of players just as you'll see them next season.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure the board aren't sitting on bundles of cash to spend next year as there's no point in spending it this season?!
I reckon its fair to say that financial matters will be on the brink of survive/ not survive day to day...
So what changes next season?
I'll get shot down for saying this but have HIST become un interested? We all heard a lot at the start about things changing and the club being run properly... there's been a phoenix bar sign, a few scarves and a new website, are things moving forward??

its quite simple lad, we need 5 or 6 people to put their hands in their pockets instead of the usual 1 or 2, thats for starters.

Could HIST possibly get someone like Calendar News interested in the plight of this once great club specifically concerning the lack of supporters due to the change in climate of the area and the obvious success of the rhinos just posting on this web site is only getting through to a minuscule amount of people and i feel only TV coverage or to a lesser degree radio Leeds will get to the local people around the Leeds area who could make the difference.

Callender might be a good idea, as the BBC is not interested outside of SL.

I truely hope that you make it next season and I said this on thursday night up at The Mount, if you keep hold of Barry Eaton I just see a chink of light for you, plus you get your long term injured back then off you go.

Barry Eaton was undoubtedly a good player but I think its fair to say he's extremely unproven at coaching level??

Are HIST becoming uninterested ? In terms of the small band of individuals at the core I would definitely say not. However, as the Chairman pointed out at the start we need volunteers, not just ideas but people willing to turn them into actions.

Eleven fans did the recent sponsored walk to Batley and raised a thousand pounds. If a hundred had done It (and we do have a hundred fans) we'd be talking nearer £10,000.
Of our band of 400 fans how many have taken the time or trouble to ask their employers about possible sponsorship?
How many of us season ticket holders have used our " mate for a tenner" tickets to try and introduce new fans to the club?

In the absence of ALL supporters doing their bit more falls on the few. So we shouldn't be surprised when things don't get done.

One of the key lessons that HIST should take from this first season is how to ensure we get more people involved in the delivery of ideas rather than just generating them.
If our core support of 400 can take the time and effort to generate £100 each that will make a massive difference to our finances.

That's our challenge for next season.

I hope the above doesn't read like a rant, that is certainly not the intention, but we really do need supporters to stand up and be counted. It's our club and our responsibility.

Rock or Hard Place? Devil or Deep Blue Sea? Frying Pan or Fire?

OK, we've not had a right lot of luck this season, but it's fair to say that the overall quality of the squad - obviously determined by the financial situation - has come up short.

So we're operating within the same financial constraints next year ... we'd be unlikely to suffer the same injury problems again, and there'd be four new teams coming up and adjusting to the Championship. But ...

Can we afford to be playing in Championship 1 in 2014 ??

So we assemble a better squad, capable of winning enough games to ensure we keep well away from the relegation zone ... at a much higher financial outlay of course.

Can we afford to make sure we're still playing in the Championship in 2014 ??

Whilst i recognise the quality of the squad is lacking, for me there are certain players who dont even seem to be trying. Unfortunatly its the same ones week in week out, who are missing tackles (on Sunday they must have thought it was touch and pass) and one in particular who is soo unfit the games around him in the defencsive line is embarressing. If we the fans can notice this, every week whats Barry and both his assistants watching?

To be honest honest ive been very disapointed in Barry so far. I know hes no money to spend, but in alot of games we lack fight, a game plan, we have no set moves (or dont seem to have) and as i stated above the same players get games every week even when they are underperforming (we used to moan about Marchy haveing favorites!!) Looking at the team at the moment Rob Kelly would get a game for me as our Second rowers are woeful.

this seasons stats--
games played- 20 players used -33
points for - 292 points against- 666
average score- 15-33
tries scored- 55 average per game- 2.75
goals scored- 36 average per game- 1.80
most appearances--- brickwood 20 haigh 20 march 20 yates 20
leading scorers tries- nathahiel 6 ratcliffe 5
most goals -- ratcliffe 19

I think we will be fotunate to keep grimmer and rats for next season, although other clubs will want to see their match fitness before signing them--I understand that Leigh are showing a interest.
Lowey will never feature on a regular basis folling a dispute between him and this coach while they were both at Keighley.

Yet again you abuse your position as an official of the club by making false statements. Neil Lowe is currently injured and not been left out after his spat at Keighley with Barry Eaton. Your constant negative comments in my opinion make your position untenable and hopefully the club will take the most sensible course of action and give you the bullet.

it was a three way conversation, the other party being a relation of one of our players.
I DO NOT INSULT ANY HUNSLET SUPPORTER, TO ME HUNSLET SUPPORTERS ARE THE SALT OF THE EARTH.

Heres a offer for you and any other interested party-- if you want to do the Timekeeping apply to our chief exec at the ground. I've only been doing it since 1974 on a voluntary basis. I will sit in with you for the first couple of games to make sure everything goes ok, the only drawbacks are that you have to report to the match comm 1 hour before kick off, and you will have to pay for the equipment-- air horns, stop watches, about £40 in total unless you can get the club to pay for it. -- good luck.
