Typical. First comment about the South of England Olympic Games is from a Londoner, talking about a potential immigrant that he fancies

I'm actually looking forward to the games now. I can remember staying up to watch David Wilkie in the swimming in 1976.

Why is the football struggling ?
Especially when they've not picked the world's most famous active footballer ... David Beckham ... but instead have gone for: -
- a bloke who refused to be on standby for England in the European Cup. Decent player, but not first choice for his club.
- a really good player but knocking on and has retired from international football. Unfortunately, he's serial adulterer who did the dirty on his own brother and tried to gag the press from revealing any of these character traits. Naturally, they've made him captain.
- a serial troublecauser ... once attacked a teammate with a golf club .. who's never won anything. Dodgy knees, struggles to train and can't play twice in a week. Likely to step down to the Championship this season
Oh and they are run by a bloke who has never won anything as a manager, is not wanted as an assistant by the current England manager and has declined to pick any Scots or Irish players.
I can't wait to see who we meet in the final.

Why is the football struggling and where are the games taking place?
Ha ha, Football is beginning to overtake the media's coverage of the rest of the games.
Thick media
Also, why has a new Olympics thread been started after the other Merged threads has been locked?
Smacks a bit of Mod Rule the ideas.
Sorry John, I see it's all about the porn.

From a sports point of view if Norway are playing it's likely to be one sided.
From any other point of view, it'll be a good view.

Sorry John, I see it's all about the porn.
I closed the original thread because it was becoming difficult to follow. Comments about the sports were mingled in with arguments about the politics of it all. I'm interested in both aspects, but they don't really mix.
Once the Olympics get underway, it may be that many more threads are started to discuss the individual events, as there will be a LOT going on, and discussing Usain Bolt's progress in the 100 metres in the same thread as Tom Daley's medal hopes in the diving, for example, will be hard work.
I'm just trying to make it as easy as possible for people to discuss this massive event, whether they support it or hate it.

Got tickets for the athletics... some heptathlon action will be nice! I can't wait!
With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

I was under the impression that every ticket for everything had sold out and you had to go on a list if you wanted any. Is this not the case?

Thousands of tickets left. But if you want to pay £30 (min) for volleyball prelims then go ahead.
