"It is impossible not to feel a twinge of sympathy for Workington Town, the fall guys this season for the Super League's determination to retain it's European dimesion, in the shape of Paris. While the French have had every assistance to survive, the importance of having a flagship in a heartland area like West Cumbria has been conveniently forgotten." - Dave hadfield - Independent 25th Augsut 1996.

Realling looking forward to the big matching at Derwent Park..... Let;s see if we can break the 2000 attendance mark on a match that should decide who finishes top.

Glad to see you back up for the sake of the fans who have had a shabby 12 months. What are the expectations for next year for your guys? Keep the team full of local lads and build year on year, or bring guys in within a reasonable budget and compete at the top end again? Looking forward for a first trip up either way.
That's a good question SamG, last year was without doubt the worst I have known, and I'm old enough to have seen many. We witnessed a group of over paid under achievers followed by the now well publicised horror story.
At the start of this season it was good just to see a team on the park, more pleasing was this being good local boys who are proud to wear the blue and white shirt. We have seen team spirt on the field, a responsible Board of Directors who have managed the club well, and within the rules, and credit must go to our coaching staff who have managed to get the very best from our lads, all in all there is a feel good factor at Craven Park, as shown by the great support seen at the club this season, who in Rugby League would have thought this possible a year ago.
Next year we start again on the learning curve, I hope we can retain all of the local boys and it goes with out saying some players must be brought in to add some strength to an already good squad. We started this season expecting nothing and look where we are, let's just hope this success can continue
