As fans of the area's 'other' RL club, i.e., the Lions, Swinton RLFC, we've all been painfully made aware of the Manchester Evening New's blatant pro-Salford bias. We are not alone in being sidelined in favour of the wonderful Pinks of Salford.
Both Oldham and Rochdale Hornets are, like us, treated very shabbily in the paper's RL columns.
Yesterday, I had cause to take a look at the Salford Advertiser's website (The SA is, of course, just another branch of the M.E.N. with similar weekly local versions spread around the Manchester region).
Having accessed their (S.A.) website, I clicked on the 'Sport' tab, then the 'Rugby League' tab only to observe there was, quite plainly, another tab, 'Salford City Reds'.
Yes, just 'Salford City Reds' with no such tab for 'Swinton Lions' as you naively might expect.
So, enraged by this typical snub, you might ring them up to give them a full-blooded piece of your 'Swinton RLFC' mind only to be given the lame excuse that they only have tabs for the big clubs, i.e. SL.
So, therefore, if they did have a feeble reason of any sort why we're excluded from having our very own 'tab', WHY, therefore, when you access the websites for the other two rugby league towns' M.E.N weeklies, the Oldham Advertiser and the Rochdale Observer do we find tabs for 'Sport', 'Rugby League', 'Oldham Roughyeds' and 'Sport', 'Rugby League', 'Rochdale Hornets' respectively who are both, as we know, currently in a league lower than us?
It's enough to make you want to lob a very large brick through the window of their ivory tower isn't it? Or am I being 'obtuse'?
I wonder, do we all sign a petition on this issue and tell them where they should stick it?
M.E.N. anti Swinton bias confirmed again.
