You might have signed his brother after he had trials and deemed not good enough by our neighbours who wear yellow, apparantly their supporters think that was the reason we beat them in the CC this seasonStrange that - is Thaler the ref one of the two thalers who played for the rams in the early noughties ? Pretty sure we signed them from erm....fev.

It is and for what it's worth I think Fev are the best in the league at it! You just out did us in that aspect of the game on Sunday!Even Featherstone. .

Yeah well done for completely missing the point! I agree we lay on at the tackle and as you state dickens is particularly bad I agree. My point is I expect to be penalised for it but I also expect to gain pens for it. As for rolling over, no I expect nothing less than a spirited performance form your lads.. Not many players lay on like Stuart Dickens he always has a hand on the player getting up to play the ball and Fev players were constantly flopping on the tackled player after the tackle was completed so i suppose it depends if you have a Fev eye on the game or sight that sees a highly competative game where our team refused to just roll over and matched yours for commitment .

You had Adam Thaler, I believe, and he signed from Castleford.
On the subject of refereeing - you'd need to be a cyclops to seriously believe that only one side slowed the play-the-ball down during Sunday's game. All teams do it, every single one in the sport of Rugby League, with no exceptions.Even Featherstone. Its part of the sport these days.
god this is hard work! I do not think anyone is saying that only one side was holding down, the point is only ONE side was getting penalised for it, epecially in the second half!

Go to the game enjoy it, your team won and we sometimes get what we consider to be the rough end of the stick from refs but they have a job to do the game has got to the stage where after it has been played one set of fans moan about the ref.god this is hard work! Exactly how many penalties did we receive for this offence in the second-half??? I can genuinely only think of one!!
What I'm looking for is someone who can contribute to what England has given to the world: culture, sophistication, genius. A little bit more than an 'ot dog, know what I mean?

Bloody hell. Is this STILL rumbling on? Featherstone won, we lost, the referee was poor, see you in the play-offs.
I can't believe Fev fans aren't focusing on enjoying Sunday instead of raking over something that was done and dusted over 72 hours ago.

a good game today, both sides in it right to the end. i don't think i've ever seen a side decline the conversion before. as for the ref? my advice is, pack it in Ronnie lad, it's time now.
But there is the problem my old friend, Ronnie packs in, who replaces him? There arnt enough refs, young people wont take it up because of the abuse they get. Who in there right mind would take it up after reading this thread. Amateur games and juniors are getting called off left right and centre because there are no officials to cover them. I myself have tried 4 refs tonight to do our 16s on Sunday no luck yet and 2 of those i tried are pro refs, because of the shortage refs like Ronnie do junior games as well. Sometimes i think we should all have a min and think about it before we start canning refs because trust me boy is it getting harder and harder each week to get a ref at amateur level

Sorry to drag this off thread, but I'm sure we had two thalers on our books and they were cousins - I'll b.ugger off now.You might have signed his brother after he had trials and deemed not good enough by our neighbours who wear yellow, apparantly their supporters think that was the reason we beat them in the CC this season

Finally got a ref for our U16s after 2 days of trying, its an x pro ref that is doing me a favour just so we can get the game on and lads can get a run out. I know exactly what is going to happen no matter what the result and no matter what the ref is actually like he will get abused the whole game off coaches and parents, then after the game i can guarantee someone will say to me "where the hellll did you get that ref from useless"
Then i wil end up ringing the ref to appologise, he will say dont worry about it and the whole cycle starts again next week. One of these days i wil say sod it and let them cancel the game and the losers will be young lads wanting to play a bit of sport on a weekend. The game will end without refs, young people are not taking it up, and can you blame them

Top post Lowfield, when i was secretary of Batley Boys we had the same problem and often at youth and junior games the only way a game could be played
was if an open age player agreed to ref,not ideal but better than having no game and this situation appears not to have improved and wont do until fans
stop using the ref as an excuse for everything they think went wrong, sometimes it is just that the team didn't play well and sometimes it is just that fans don't
understand the rules.
Maybe it would be a good idea if clubs ran a section in the programme explaining the rules with a different rule covered in each issue.

Like....when two opposition players collide and you run around them and score..this is NO TRY..obstruction; I don't see any harm in being constructive when refs make clangers like this; IF and I doubt he does that Laughton reads this thread it may actually make him aware of various mistakes he made; Hopefully refs never cheat and most I'm sure don't but like any other employment they are open to ridicule.....it hasn't deterred David Cameron;Top post Lowfield, when i was secretary of Batley Boys we had the same problem and often at youth and junior games the only way a game could be played

I remember ending up reffing a tag rugby final after a ref didn't show up, had no kit, whistle or cards and did it in some jeans and a tshirt - not even a sorry from the RFL aswell (RFL Event)!
Was one of the hardest jobs i've ever done and I will never ever criticise a ref again.
Whether he is right or wrong, unsighted and falling over, he will give what he sees.
I'd love to see at the start of the year a roadshow of the years laws, where you get to know the basic laws and new laws for this year.

Went to a roadshow 2 or 3 years ago ,where the refs taking it explained that they allow extra time in the tackle if it is a "dominant" tackle
or a "submisive" tackle ( where the tackled player drops to his knees on contact hoping for a quick ptb). There were about 4 people attended

my grandson did it when he was 16. passed the course and was doing quite well. then he got fryston v york acorn u13s. the acorn coach and parents were an absolute disgrace. thought they could bully the ref cos he was a young kid. he finished up sending the acorn coach off, when he wouldn't leave the field, he abandoned the game. the lad just concentrates on playing now, i'm happy to say.But there is the problem my old friend, Ronnie packs in, who replaces him?
