No No No Mark Smith all day long. Kev Penny has indeed come on leaps and bounds and I hope he signs again next season, but Smithy is pure class in my opinion and if the club need to get one players signature for next season it is his.Making a late surge for player of the season in my opinion.

But yes Smith is up there too.
For me ainscough is player of the season so far. Underrated massively.

To have won people over is great testimony to his performances. The fact is Kevin Penny has a lot of latent talent as a winger and thankfully, after a bit of a false start, Steve McCormack has ultimately got the best out of him.
He is a player that ought to be a candidate for Super League.
It will be a challenge to retain him for next season.
Its very tough though, for any winger to win player of the season.

Your comments Phil are exactly why for me he is a contender! He was public enemy number one at the start of the season with the Rugby Union shenanigans but has won us all over with a string of fine performances.
All has worked out well in the end. Penny has already notched up quite a collection of clubs for a player of his age, but has benefitted recently from a settled run in the team and knows now that he has won people over at Swinton and seems to be enjoying his rugby again.
Key question is: Will that tempt him into staying another season?

Swinton were awful tonight, easily our worst performance of the season. Batley were very good from start to finish, simple really.

Being on TV simply isn't good for us!
It's the 3rd of four straight away games, we've got Featherstone next week where I can't see any better scoreline.

Agreed Bryce, at least we had some fun in the stand behind the sticks!

Well done. You sang well and did your team proud.

From Swinton's point of view we had little to play for, Batley on the other hand are in the play off's and position matters and that showed in their performance tonight, plus they were smarting from the loss at LSV earlier in the season.
No Steve Mc tonight but that is due to his Dad being very poorly and on behalf of the Swinton fans, we hope he gets well soon.
Was i upset about loosing tonight..well disapointed yes, upset no.We have had a good go at the Championship in our first season back.

As for your fans at the top end in the stand, they were brilliant! Sang all the way through the game!
Good luck for the rest of the season!

Sadly that handful of close matches that were not turned into wins earlier in the piece means the closing few games are dead rubbers. With that being the case its predictable that performances will taper off. All chance of getting into the top 6 evapourated with that avoidable defeat away at York.
It will be a big shame to end the season with a wimper, as there isn't much between several of the sides ability-wise and when on its "A-game" this squad has been very competitive against sides towards the top end. They just needed to enter this run of away games with 8 or 9 more points in the bag, then there really would've been something to play for and games like last night would've had some proper intensity.
Such is the turnover rate of players nowadays, when you get a decent side together its important to make the most of it - there is no guarantee the key players will all stay aboard for the following season. We may live to look back on this year as a big chance blown. The club needs to start forming its squad for 2013 if it wants the efforts of 2012 to be anything more than a brief flash in the pan. With relegation reinstated and the Cumbrian sides resurgent for 2013, in many ways playing performance then will be more important than it was this year.
