Heard today and not sure if it's true that Leigh east , Leigh miners , rose bridge and 5 hull teams have made the decision to go back to winter in the pennine league . Very sad if true

would'nt surprise me keith but what did the club do to try and promote summer rugby, look at when we was in the final of war of the roses,it was the only game on a bank holiday and it was'nt pushed to try and get a good crowd on with advertising and its tried even less for summer games

Not my bag anymore John but summer rugby needs to be given a chance . The game is in poor health with all the infighting and this will push the game further back

Hope it is not true but I suppose that all the clubs within the NCL are having mixed views on the summer game. Some will like it some will not But like with most things in life it is always the knockers that air their views. Some clubs will return to the winter game but I think it maybe their reserves that return not their NCL teams.

I'm sure the players at those teams will be falling over themselves to play in the Pennine League!

Where have you hard that Keith ?
As far as i,m aware the Miners are committed to the NCL , what would not surpise me though is they may want to explore a return back to the NWC for a reserve team .
Giving more revenue in the so called winter months like many clubs they can see a lack of revenue as a major factor in their survival.

Let me put things into perspective, firstly Leigh Miners Rangers ARE NOT leaving summer rugby
, Secondly why are people so disillusioned with summer rugby when they have not completed one season and given it a chance. As Kaykie say's you have to promote summer rugby and try different avenues of those tried and trusted in winter rugby. Miners are looking at all different formats to increase revenue through family match day BBQs and having live entertainment either before or after certain games . Keep the spectators happy which brings in much needed revenue and you will have a happy club. Endorse change.
Its nice to be important, but never forget its important to be nice!!!

No rumours circulating about a move back to winter in Hull, i know Skirlaugh have had more frustrations with being able to run a second team in the summer, player numbers are not an issue its just that people wont travel to play them, Dudley Hill called off at 12.15 this week which is a poor effort on the day of a game

if miners do as maxwell says there'll be even less at east when the matches clash because the neautral spectaters that watch both teams wont pay the £2.50 to get in and expensive beer prices when they can go miners and have something going on on top of the game and pay cheaper beer prices

I think its going to be an interesting off season.... If teams leave there will be others wanting to join the NCL, I was at the Wath Brow v Wigan St Pats game on saturday and was told by a respected guy at the Brow that 18 teams (which I find hard to believe and would have totally dismissed coming from anyone else) are looking to join the NCL!

Wow! Interesting. I'd love to know who the 18 teams are assuming that alot of National league three teams are amongst that but obviously the others must be from established leagues
As people have said some will find Winter is for them and the Pennine is a great league that will only get stronger, and other clubs will move to the summer season if that suits them

Coventry, Nottingham, Underbank and Kippax have applied. Bramley, Wizards and South Wales Hornets fail criteria but don't know that they haven't put in a speculative bid. Bristol and St Albans haven't applied

Nothing pleases me more than teams wanting to stay summer but when respected people tell you these things it's better out in the open so like this thread people can confirm or deny . Hope east see sence and remain summer . Leigh miners can you confirm then that your 2nd team are looking to switch to winter as it came from your side .

I've heard that BARLA are looking into starting a winter National League. Looks like we might be going back to square one. Didn't BARLA start the original National League in 1986?
I suppose it would be good idea if say 12 NCL teams wanted to revert back to winter.
I don't see a problem with that provided BARLA have a minimum standards for entry teams and keep the pub teams in the local leagues.

Barla looked into this last year and failed miserably, it is unlikely that NCL clubs would be happy to go back under the BARLA Banner, they are a out of date organisation that is no longer fit for purpose

And what have the RFL done to help the community clubs?Barla looked into this last year and failed miserably, it is unlikely that NCL clubs would be happy to go back under the BARLA Banner, they are a out of date organisation that is no longer fit for purpose
Let's face it the amateur game is in a sorry state and in my opinion part of this is down to the RFL. It's easy to jump on the bandwagon and blame BARLA.
The game was in a healthier state whilst we played in the winter: More players, bigger crowds and let's be honest a better standard.
