How are the 18's doing for numbers and getting 17 players out on a regular basis at Miner's and East's now that its a March - November season?

our u18s are struggling at present. got enough numbers for games but numbers down at training is poor, dont think it has helped with them yet to win in the league this year.

Are you sure?

I was under the impression that Leigh East had made it through to the Final of the Youth League Challenge Cup knockout tournament and were to play the winners of the other Semi Final between West Hull and Thatto Heath that takes place on 12th August.

And what have the RFL done to help the community clubs?
Let's face it the amateur game is in a sorry state and in my opinion part of this is down to the RFL. It's easy to jump on the bandwagon and blame BARLA.
The game was in a healthier state whilst we played in the winter: More players, bigger crowds and let's be honest a better standard.

Better state in the winter ? did nt the Barla National cup winners scrap their 2nd team mid season for lack of numbers ?

You only have to look at all the NCL sides, all had 'A' teams in the winter comp. How many are struggling to raise a side in the summer. In my town Halifax, Elland, Siddal & Ovenden are all struggling to raise a 2nd team, a few years ago that was unheard of.

So has the move to March - November benefitted your U18's as usually they are one of the top sides in any competition they are in?

Your situation regarding numbers seems to be a common problem for a large number of clubs particularly at U16's and U18's now we are playing March - November, this season I have watched many games at these two age groups were teams have fielded less than 13 players and on many an occasion 11 v 12 or 12 v 12 has been a far to regular occurance, one game was even 10 v 11 which on speaking to the coaches was purely down to the fact players were doing other things due to the time of year.

As I pointed out earlier it has benefitted some but on reflection and in my own opinion after speaking to many people I would suggest it has had a negative impact on more teams and clubs than it has had a positive one, particularly in the North West.

No rumours circulating about a move back to winter in Hull, i know Skirlaugh have had more frustrations with being able to run a second team in the summer, player numbers are not an issue its just that people wont travel to play them, Dudley Hill called off at 12.15 this week which is a poor effort on the day of a game

Didnt skirlaugh call a game off against us earlier in the season too? bit of double standards here

Yer but they are only a pub side - I believe they had many injuries and the 1st team fixtures take priority in BARLA run competitiosn (Or should)
Carlsberg don't do Soldiers, but if they did, they would probably be Brits.<div align='center'></div>

Mid-season satisfaction survey results

The RFL’s mid-season satisfaction survey attracted almost 700 responses from participants which provided excellent feedback on the season so far and the results were presented to the Community Board last week.

The majority of participants indicated that they were enjoying the season so far with positive feedback praising the flexibility, better conditions for training, improved communication and websites.

David Gent, RFL Director of Participation said: “I’d like to thank everyone who took the time to take part in the online survey and provide us with feedback on their experiences so far this season.

“We’ve read every single comment and whilst we’re pleased that the majority of participants are enjoying the season it has also highlighted the issues which we need to address regarding the playing calendar and fixture scheduling.

“There are areas that we can improve but the vast majority of concerns raised were regarding administrative issues such as scheduling of games which can be resolved and we are working hard to sort these out.”

There was no problems last year when they first switched, this year they have been playing a game once every three to four weeks, there seems to be alot of free weeks in the conference youth league this year which i dont think as helped, if they are not playing every week lads are bound to lose interest, on having a successful u18s team, we have been very lucky over the past few years to have very strong teams, the u16s that come up to 18s were all good junior sides and they had a good mix of older lads who had also been part of successful junior sides. The current crop are not bad lads and quiet a few have not looked out of place in the first team when they have played, but has junior teams they have not been as strong as other local clubs at there age ie Thatto, Judes, East, has in the past the u16s coming through to u18s have all been decent prem teams. I think it runs in cycles i dont think any club can boast they have strong sides right through from u7s to openage.

Don't think all the NCL clubs had strong A teams in the winter league agree that Siddal had a strong A team not so sure about Ovenden and Elland, Once again it is a case of for some clubs the switch to summer is a good move for others it has not been a good move. But I also think that it depends on who you talk to at some clubs because different people within the same club will give you different views about how their club is going on with the switch.
