Well once again our so called star player was non existant,i think bamber and forber would have played better than lupton and has for the rest it's a good job we are facing gateshead in our next game because if we are going to perform like that then it's just has well we have an easy game next week for promotion.I agree with fester that matty and big philips were standout players but the rest they had thrown the towel in before the game started,we looked a small side today and give them their due donny beat us fair and square, ginge and big coward were never in the game and i think we really need to go and get a big prop for the run in and maybe the fella from salford might have second thoughts and join us?

Was told tonight Rooney and Jonathan Dawes are out for the season. I would if John Patrick would consider a return.

I'm going to be generous and say in the circumstances - mid-week match, long coach journey, some players just off work or in Matty's case going back to work after the match - we did okay to keep the scor to 22 - 6. However, we all know that we are a better team then we showed tonight and a number of players need to be looking in the mirror tonight. It's been a long hard season with constant breaks in fixtures that don't do anyone any favours but what was the point of all the training, running up the steps at Maryport in the winter months, etc, if we are going to finish the season with performances like tonights?

We are fortunate to have Gateshead up next where hopefully we can rack up a few more points to boost our points difference but we then have 3 hard matches to finish the season and nothing less than good 13 point or more wins against those 3 will be good enough. The ball is in our own court if we want it enough!!!!
I remember when .............................

"It is impossible not to feel a twinge of sympathy for Workington Town, the fall guys this season for the Super League's determination to retain it's European dimesion, in the shape of Paris. While the French have had every assistance to survive, the importance of having a flagship in a heartland area like West Cumbria has been conveniently forgotten." - Dave hadfield - Independent 25th Augsut 1996.

We played badly especially in the first half and the best team on the night won.
But the margins between winning and losing were tight - 3 tries to 1 and we bombed at least 2. Cooke Showed the class needed to run the game in attack and Lupton didn't. Also we had 2 harsh decisions go against us in attack. But fair play to Donny they picked out our lazy marking and caned us for it in the first half.
I'm sorry and I don't like having a go at players but what exactly does calderwood bring to the team that jp or dawsey doesnt?? Are we not playing to his strengths or summat?
Disappointed with the performance but its not the end of the world.
Up the Town.

I've said it about calderwood for a few weeks and repeatably got shot down by a few on this board, he just hasn't delivered apart from his debut against Doncaster. Dawesy definitely deserves a shot now

Yeah it was disappointing but we got some shocking decisions against us like the one that came off their player to Calderwood who was in the clear ,and is a trip (100% blatantly intentional) not a sending off ? cos the one on Carter when he scooted down the blindside should've been.

These things change games and as someone said it was only 3 tries to 1.

and play who instead of Whitehead and Macdonald?
I agree about Lupton, although he did make a couple of breaks near the end (why cant he do that from the start) .
Dont know why everyone is panicing , 1st defeat in 7 games away to Doncaster on a thursday night after some of the lads had been at work...

We can still win this league!

Why can't Dawesy play second row cover - more aggression , more skill, more pace. I'd certainly prefer him off the bench ?

Just reflecting this morning a lot less emotional than last night... They completely dominated for 65 minutes yet only scored 3 tries at home when they're a free scoring team . We lost by 16 and bombed so many scoring chances ( Miller , Forber , Calders ,Olstrum etc ) despite not playing well , and the ref cost us a few more . We could and should have got a point , finished strongly , and showed ticker to the end . 3 tries to 1 for all that and we created more chances ! And that's playing our worst of the season ! It's all in their , we just need to bring it out in the biggans...Yes we played poorly but still held them to 3 and should have scored more than that , that's my point reflecting today .

I agree ginge is coming to the end but he had a good game against Wales 2 weeks ago and I would love to see him go out with some sort of winners medal(champions or playoff) If Newton has gone back to hull then hopefully we will try to get him for the last month of the season as well. Our biggest problem was we just couldn't get our 2 markers set and they controlled the ruck because of that. I still feel as though we played far top much 1 man rugby and if we'd opened up out wide we could have caused them a lot more problems. Dawesy is never a second rower and certainly should not be played there, we have shacks,Phillips and stack so I don't see why he would have to play there. Although I would of rather seen him start at centre with olstrum at loose last night. If the halves are mooing to continue being this lacklustre I would switch carter to 6 and ell miller to full back and dawesy on the wing. At least Brett takes the line on and he was superb with Forber at the start of the year. That would still leave us a centre short, but I would hope that we could maybe persuade Patrick to return to the end off the year. Rooney is a huge miss
