State of our game

The reason why im saying this is that at the moment the game is to fast so when you have to bring fringe players in because of other commitments to your ist team players they really struggle and the game ends 1 sided which is no good to anyone and that starts to breed negativity. Most excuses on here about summer rugby is about players having other things to do but truth is some players are finding it hard and dont want to play anymore, the game is not physical anymore but very demanding.
To me super league is dying quickly the concept of the competition is unfair, the game itself is boring because its all about power, pace and the same structures where as the amatuer game is more off the cuff like it should be played. But now were under the R F L who knows where were going

Shortage of officials is a big problem and it doesn't help the game when you have up to 8 on duty at a asuper league game, they are human and also have families so I'm sure they will also be getting earache from a partner if they take an amateur game as well every weekend.
I don't agree with changing the rules of the game and changing back to 5 metres will make it more negative, I'll agree also with the pro game has become boring, for some reason most of the coaches can't think out of the box and all we seem to be seeing is the same plays over and over.
As for where you are going with the RFL.....................FEEDER CLUBS being farmed by the RFL.

So you want the game to go back 20 years. Why not go the whole way and have two substitutions, no rotation of players. Once off your game is over. I remember the game changing to the 10m rule and for the first few matches I felt I was on shuttle runs in training, takes a few games to adjust but the player gets there. After reading the threads about summer rugby i would like to give my opinion,Firstly we are trying to play super league rules with amatuer players and average referees who are being fast tracked. I think the rules should be modified for the amatuer game like maybe going back 7 mts or back to 5, cut down the amount of changes you make maybe down to 6 so players get a bit more fatigued and slow the game down a little.

At the end of the day its the players currently playing who should tell us when the season should start, finish, have breaks etc. They are the ones playing the game,
All us spectators and club officials have our opinions but in years to come the current players will be running our clubs and hopefully managing the leagues. We only have experience of winter rugby and expect attendances to remain the same as the winter season and have stuck to the same scheduling of 2:30 kick offs.
Lets think outside the box, a 2:30 K.O was in place so that the game finished before it went dark at around 4:30 in mid December, Great news: in summer it stays lighter till later. Why not move kick off time to say 5 or 6pm especially for regional fixtures. Supporters could spend the day with family then go out to watch an evening game.
Here comes the money maker, the home club could if it wishes provide entertainment (disco, group etc after the match) which would bring in revenue to the club. Visiting supporters would probably spend a good night out in another club and build up better relations between teams as well as spending a lot more money at the bar.
When I was playing I always thought that it was a pity we didn't have some entertainment after the game to keep people at the club till going out time.

We are struggling at East this season due to losing seven first team players to the Pro game, victims of our own success. That is not a problem, we are here to progress players to the next level. At least five of our National Youth Team players are signed up with pro clubs, but under the new rules they are able to play for us so long as it doesn't conflict with the pro teams requirements and all but one have played first team this term and also played for the NCL Youth team.
At top level Amateur we need to be playing as professional players do, otherwise the NCL will become a joke.

Interesting point of view. I noted John Kear's comments about Batley and the players' post match environment. Having seen what has been achieved in the Olympics, does the game at ALL levels need a fundamental shift in its thinking?

We tried a fundamental shift to summer, and 15 years later we are still trying.Having seen what has been achieved in the Olympics, does the game at ALL levels need a fundamental shift in its thinking?
You can't make big fundamental changes with a sport effectively run by 3 groups (RFL, NCL, BARLA).

Sorting your last point would be a fundamental change straight away!

Lets look at a few facts of the state of the game at junior/youth level either side of the Pennines, on the West side we seem to have a game thats in a little turmoil as their U18's took th RFL shilling, the U16's is looking to be ill as well, The NWC youth are saying they will not be running U17's next season.
Travel 50 miles East and you find a youth game at these age groups thriving, the biggest difference being the Yorkshire youth league play in the winter and is still a BARLA league.
I suppose this could answer Del Capo's question on who is the youth expert!!!

If we modify the rules we are saying that the players have accepted that they are not going to advance to pro level and will play a simpler modified level.

Its refreshing to see a post containing so much common sense
