Super League clubs look set to have a formal link-up with Championship clubs from next season, as plans continue to revamp the structure of Rugby League for players in the development stages of their careers
After weeks of discussions League Express understands that a decision to link Super League clubs with Championship outfits is likely to take place in a matter of weeks, and will probably be concluded by the end of next month
The article goes on to say clubs are in favour of scrapping the Under 20 Valvoline Cup, the U18's comp will become the U19's and Under 15's and 16's will merge into one competition. The two Hull clubs will share an academy team.
Quite big changes at a time when we seem to have a fair few players coming through, the knock on effects for existing Championship players seems a big one, along with how fans will react to seeing there team flooded with borrowed talent. I know Wigan already have links with South Wales, which seems to work well for a few players at a time, but not sure you could move the current U20's lads en-masse and not see a drop off in training and development etc being so far removed from there parent club and the first team structures they have in place.
Be interesting to see how it pans out, on the face of it strikes me as a tough sell to some Championship fans!
*If it has and I missed it sorry!
