We have just had the most dreadful weekend of our life's.

Here is a link telling what has happened to us.

http://www.thetelegr...attack_by_dogs/

The woman has been charged, but the dog which bit my child and ripped my dogs guts out is still with the owner. The police have no power to take it away.

I am desperate to do something about this. I have never begged any one for anything in my life. But i am begging any of you who think you may be able to help me in any way.

I want to do something about this. How do i go about getting a petition going/
How can i go about getting my PM do get involved in this?

You and your family have my sympathy. This is appalling, and it is happening more and more frequently with these dangerous dogs, and their usually equally dangerous owners. The Dangerous Dogs Act is a poor law passed in a hurry, but I think because the attacking dogs also attacked your daughter, you might be able to get some real action taken.

Here's a link from the Telegraph, with 512 comments, about a very similar case, which might give you some pointers:

Jim your daughter must be distraught and traumatised by this. mate get some advice: your councillor, the dog warden service, your solicitor. If the woman has been charged, then one of the outcomes could well be that the dog is taken away. Give me a call mate-it's been a while since we spoke anyway.

Gutted for you and your family, I got a Cocker Spanial 2 years ago and quickly learnt where to and not to walk him when it came to chavy dogs an there scummy lowlife retarded owners.

I hope you recover from this and with time go and get another dog, although I appreciate you will never replace Ted.

too horrible to contemplate mate, I hope your daughter makes a full physical and emotional recovery.

dogs on or off leads in a public place are supposed to be under their owners control, I would badger the police until they do something about this, make them do their job.

Sounds terrible. I hope your daughter is alright.

I would have thought your local MP is a bloke called Kris Hopkins (he's the Keighley MP). Best way to get in touch with him is probably to look up his number and just give him a call. Old fashioned, but usually effective.

Kris Hopkins http://www.krishopkins.co.uk/ -- contact details there.

Also, possibly depending on their services in your area, CAB: http://www.citizensa...alnumber=100555

What happened sounds absolutely awful. I hope your daughter is recovering.

This is horrible, I really wish I could do something to help. Surely if your daughter was bitten then there is no question about these dogs being dangerous. Could you get a free 30 mins to discuss with a solicitor?

The last government were convinced that we were there to do their bidding. They wasted vast quantities of our money in order to spy on us, intimidate us and needlessly over regulate us, whilst gold plating their own pensions and expenses. Their behind the scenes encouragement of, and turning a blind eye to, the kettling and harrassment tactics of the Police are a shameful episode in our history which we need to remember and address urgently.

That sounds horrendous Jim and I can only sympathise as something similar happened to myself a few years back.

I've never been a big dog person, I was always weary of them as a child although I was never bitten. However, an ex-girlfriend insisted she wanted a dog (a mixed yorkie) and there was little I could do about it. Over time, I grew to be fond of the dog and I would often be the one walking it. Because he never came into contact with other dogs though, he was very nervous around them and would often growl if one came sniffing too close. The other dogs would usually just ignore him as he was too small to be a threat.

One day, I took him to the local park and a huge dog came galloping over to have a sniff. Before my exes dog could even react, the other dog bit him in the back of his neck and was shaking him in the air. The squeals were horrendous and extremely distressing. I was left in the situation of having to try and pry him out of his jaws, which given my fear of dogs was not easy and could easily have turned the situation on me. I suspect the larger dog got bored and eventually dropped him, the chavs in control of the dog were nowhere near big enough to be in charge of the dog. Luckily for us, we managed to get to an emergency vet but the dog was visibly shaken for a long time. As for the chavs dog, we had no way of tracking it as it and its owners simply ran off and we never saw them again.Personally, it put me off ever owning a dog and I doubt I ever will. The few times I walked the dog after this I felt very wary and nervous of the potential for harm. I remember feeling helpless and that there was little protection to stop it happening again.

I know this is little help but I must admit I'm shocked that the other dogs aren't put down for something like that. I think the law needs to be incredibly vigilant when it comes to owning dogs and any showing of violence, especially towards a human, should be harshly punished. I actually thought that there was an act to do with small dogs where this was the case. My ex was certainly worried that if her dog tried to bite anybody it could be put down. The result will just be that decent people like yourself will stop owning dogs, or at least taking them out and it will only be the people who want to look hard that will do.

If something isn't done there is an alternative course of events that can start to happen. I remember getting a taxi in Liverpool shortly after this and the driver was a man that bred dogs for racing or shows or something like that. His dogs were also attacked in the park and had their legs broken or at least badly damaged. His solution was to get revenge and so he went out and bought a couple of steaks, filled them with rat poison and then threw them over the fence of the attacking dog. He seemed proud that he'd never seen them again.

If the law doesn't help then people will start to take control of it themselves, this of course is not an ideal solution.

M
My sympathies James, I hope your daughter makes a good recovery. Hope she gets her Ipod back. If not let me know I have a pink Ipod shuffle I won in raffle she can have. Pinks not really my colour and I have one anyway. PM me if it’s any use.
Had a pit-bull/staff cross attack my Golden Retriever Bobby whilst I was putting some decking down in my garden. The thing came charging in through the gate off the fields at the back and went straight for Bobby. Its owner chased after him and was trying to pull his dog off, without any success. There was blood everywhere (bit half Bobby's ear off) and would have probably killed him if I hadn't have hit it with the spade. Bloody thing turned on me then, so the claw hammer to canister did the trick. Wasn’t my proudest moment having to kill an animal that more than likely would have been a good dog if it had been trained proper and not just paraded as a street accessory, but I had no choice.

First of all thanks to all the kind messages.
Thanks to The Bobster for your offer of the pink Ipod shuffle.
I will decline your kind offer as two local Asian men have came forward with money for her to replace it.

I was told by the police on Monday 30th July that, one dog had been removed. The exact wording was, "She has given up the white dog. This is the one that bit your daughter and did the most damage to your dog. However she wants to keep the brown dog, as in her opinion it wasn't as involved".
The same officer then told me 3 times, "You will never see that white dog again i promise you that".

Lucinda was out when the police came. She had gone to a friends 16th birthday meal. When i picked her up and told her that the dog had gone. She broke down in tears because she was so scared of seeing this woman and that dog.

On Tue morning i took my eldest to work. Driving back home, i have to pass the area of the park where the attack took place.
I saw the woman and the white dog in the same place the attack took place. I have to admit i thought i was seeing things as the police had told me it had gone.

I phoned the police wanting to know why i had been lied to.
They sent out a young female officer who had just come on duty and had no idea of what was going on. She said she didn't have a clue about the law regarding dangerous dogs. She had to go back to the station and check things out and get back to us.

Two hours later she phones me to say, that the woman has given up the brown dog but wants to keep the white dog. This is the one that bit my child and ripped my dogs guts out. This was about 11am.

I can see the house where this woman lives from my front door. Its down the end of my street across a main road.

The next thing i know i am at the end of my road. I have no recollection of getting to that point. As i turn round to go home i realise i am holding a 12inch carving knife in my hand. I only know this as it hits the wall as i turn round.
I do not remember going out of my house, never mind going into the kitchen and getting the knife.

I go back home and phone the doctors as i thought i was going mad. I never knew i had it in me to kill someone but i could have killed her with that knife.

When i get to the doctors i begged her not to section me as I needed to be there for my daughter. I then explain what has happened and how I am feeling.
She then tells me I have got post dramatic stress disorder. She tells me that the way I look at things means I struggle to expect the police would lie and that has sent me over the edge and that’s why I have gone down the street with the knife. She puts me on tranquillizers. So on top of everything I cant work as I cant drive.
I get home from the docs and phone the police to tell them about this.

Wed morning I am in the park at 7am warning people about this woman and her dog. I had asked the police to do this but they cant or wouldn’t do it.
About 9.30am I am talking to a woman and she tells me the police are outside her house in a van.
I go over to the van and have a word with the officer. He tells me they are there to take the dog away. I tell him about me being lied to and tell him I don’t believe him. I walk away and he follows me.

As we are talking the woman and the dog come out of the house. I go for her and he has to drag me away. To be fair he was very good to me. Talking to me and telling me what I have to do.
I see the dog being taken away and go back home.

I have made a formal complaint against the police over this. They sent out a Sargent to talk to me.

He admits the police have let me down. He doesn’t think I was lied to and says it was more than likely a mistake. I point out the mistake as I could now be looking at a charge of murder.
Friday we go away for our holiday. The holiday which we arranged so we could take our dog with us. To be honest I didn’t enjoy it one little bit as Ted wasn’t there.

He said he will look into it and get back to me. That means he should call me today.
I feel as if he was there to dampen a fire rather than put it out and stop me taking this further.

She didn't give the dog up. The police took it. She was happy to have it in her house with her 8 year old child.

The Sargent who came out to see me, admitted this only happened because of my actions. So if i hadn't done anything it would still be there.
