looks like the rfl have stepped in to save bradford bulls from extinction.i wonder if any clubs below super league were struggling and about to go into admin do you reckon the rfl would help a championship club in the same sort of situation.this really could only happen in rugby league.bradford have been getting super league money for god knows how many years and have now also sold there ground but still havent learnt there lesson.this franchise system is working really well when the top clubs are going bust the rfl must be keeping a really close eye on the top clubs spending.lol absolute joke

I agree fozzy. What a farce. I forecast this a few weeks ago. Nobody has ever mentioned that Bradford Northern went bust in the 60s.

Agree that it looks very odd indeed, although it's SL that has stepped in, not the RFL.

Not sure about this at all. It sets a very odd precedent and suggests the SL clubs want to keep the club in SL longer-term. I hope that the RFL reject the offer, as there are a number of conflicts of interest in this, both with individuals and companies, and it just isn't right.

It's worth noting that the RFL have helped Championship clubs in similar situations in the recent past. Rochdale (bought their share of the ground), Keighley (think they invested in the ground) for instance IIRC.

What I would say though is that if SL are buying time to allow the club to honour fixtures (4 weeks left?) and find a buyer, then it isn't a bad call. It's perhaps not the best call, but it's not the worst either.

This situation would involve the SL clubs taking over the cost of the club until the season end (I assume the club would be suspended from play-offs if in contention at this point), allowing a more suitable buyer time to come forward. If they don't then the club is allowed to go into administration.

This would protect the competition, and allow a fresh start with a new member next season (or with 13 clubs). It also would be SL clubs money that is used, not RFL money.

But other than as a short term fix, it's not a good idea at all.

I think the strings will be pulled by the administrator as the RFL will have a say in the matter but ultimatly it is the administrator that has the power to decide on a sale of the club or going into liquidation.

As a point to note; since Barrow was handed down the punishment for the 2010-2011 breaches the RFL have been extreemly helpfull especially during the the closed season last year.

Nigel Wood, the CEO of the RFL, must have been shocked when Nigel Wood, Chairman of SL, handed him this proposal.

The fact which annoys me is that they were awarded a B grade license. Apparantly the RFL had an idea what was happening at bradford, also the bulls must of presented a business plan which the RFL thought was suitable to cope for 3 years so the RFL have likely not even looked at half the business plans and structures of clubs and have basically selected the 14 teams they want in SL and if you arnt fortunate to be in that group then you slowly have to give way to these greedy fourteen despite possibly being better run than some of these clubs and not needing hundreds and thousands of sky money to survive. The RFL are apparantly considering a new academy system which will merge current academies together in the attempt to try and cut costs. What will likely happen is that the top youngsters from CC areas will just go directly to SL teams so that the SL clubs don't have to fork out transfer fees to Championship teams and try and keep all the money in the top division.

The way the game is run is disgraceful, I really hope there is changes in the future for the good of our game…

I think it also raises questions over the effectiveness of the auditors/consultants that the RFL called in to help assess the bids. Not sure who they used in 2011, but in the previous cycle I think it was Deloittes. Not a cheap company to employ on such a basis by any stretch of the imagination.

Rfl didn't buy Rochdale Hornets shares the old board borrowed money from Rfl and used the shares as collateral when they went onto administration the loan was unpaid so shares have remained with them and as now a cooperative the club is not of a postion to buy them back (yet ) who knows what the future brings

And in doing so the RFL got a three million pound assett for fifty thousand pounds. Not bad bussiness if you can get it.
