Leigh Miners took the local bragging rights for the second time in a month last night but more importantly took the two competition points to keep them in contention of a top six finish after producing a strong second half performance against Leigh East to win 42-20 on a warm summers evening at Twist Lane. After a tough opening it was the visitors who opened the scoring when Miners forced a pass to many inside their own half to allow Danny Kilshaw in for an easy interception try, Kerrod Selmes converting to give the score 6-0. East increased their lead soon after when Jermaine Allan easily collected a cross field kick to drop over the line, Selmes converting off the touchline to give the score 12-0. Miners responded with a try under the sticks from a determined Liam Coleman, Jonny Youds converting to get Miners back in the game at 12-6. Martin Lewis was next to score for the home side when he went over in the left corner from a pin point Youds pass, Miners took the lead for the first time when Jimmy Muir went in for the simplest of tries from a tap penalty, Youds converting to edge Miners in front at 16-12. Leigh East replied straight away when they opted for a short kick off to get the ball back, and with them attacking the Miners line Kerrod Selmes went over to put East back in front with a converted try, Selmes added a penalty goal on the stroke of half time to give Leigh East a four point advantage going into the break, leading 20-16 after an entertaining opening forty minutes.
Miners come out strongly after the break and found themselves back in front soon after the restart when Jonny Youds broke from deep inside his own half to send in a supporting Ross Bradley to score on the right, Youds converting to put Miners two points in front at 22-20. Adam Thomason scored a fifth home try out wide, Youds converting to open up an eight point gap at 28-20. Any hopes of a Leigh East comeback were ended when John Taylor was sent off for a high tackle. Miners finished the match with three more tries the first two coming from Martin Lewis and Shaun Marsh before the outstanding Liam Coleman finished with the try of the game breaking inside his own half fending off East full back Kieron Dainty along the way to finish off in the left corner, Youds converting from the touchline to wrap up a 42-20 victory much to the delight of the home supporters.
Next week Miners are away to Skirlaugh in the League.

milford marlins 30-30 hunslet warriors ft.
Probably the best game ive seen all season.
Both sides had 9 regular 1st. teamers un-availavable, but still manged to turn out 17 players to take part in a hard fought local derby.
I cant recall any penalties for foul play; controlled excellently by a young referee and his two linesmen.
Played in front of a large crowd, great playing conditions on probably the best playing area in the league.
Both sets up supporters agreed after the game that a draw was a fair result.

Warriors took a 0-12 lead within the first 15 minutes with a brace of tries by winger Lee West and 2 Gary Mc Celland goals,The Marlins then got back into the game with tries by Fullback Corey Challenger & Winger Sam Hood With Stand off Martin Loveridge converting both goals. It looked like that would be the score at the break but a try by Nathan Robinson on the whistle gave the warriors the lead and with McCelland adding the goal it was 12-18 at half-time. Once again back came the Marlins and again levelled the game on 54 minutes with a Matt Harding Try and a Loveridge goal. Milford hoped to kick on from this But the Warriors also could smell victory and it was the Warriors that kick on with further tries by James Ollivant and Lee West completing his hat-trick with Mc Celland adding both goals. 12-30. The Game looked has if it had slipped away from the Marlins has the game entered the last few minutes and the large crowd began to drift away. But The Milford Marlins Motto of never say die came to the foe once again and 2 tries in the finally 5 minutes earned them a well deserved draw Firstly Shaun Ward powered his way over for Loveridge to kick the easy goal. Then on 78 minutes winger Henry Mingham Dived in at the corner to leave 18 year old debutant Martin Loveridge with a difficult pressure kick from the touchline. Loveridge kicked the goal with ease and levelled the matters 30-30. Great Game played in a great spirit with a big crowd watching.

Agree with everything on your post Longman both teams have some very good young lads on view yesterday. Young loveridge played beyond his years and the try scored by Warriors 16 year old winger Robinson who ran 30 metres with his shirt over his head will live in the memory for along time good luck to both teams for the season.Probably the best game ive seen all season.

No thatto won 28 24. still think ref and lines men should be fair
Did they make some mistakes? Some of the touch judges might as well not be there at times
