Just seen an article on the St Albans website (here) that says that NCL3 will be finishing in three weeks time, and those teams that have not played all their games will be awarded 24 - 0 wins or losses, depending on who can't make the game. Looking at the league table as of this morning, some teams have 7 games to play in 4 weeks, but looking at the distances involved between some of them, I don't think it will happen.

It seems that a team might forfeit a game, be awarded a 24 - 0 defeat (or win) when they might have lost (or won) by a lot more, and end up higher (or lower) up the table than by actually playing. This isnt a criticism, just seems a shame that final league positions might in the end be decided by a calculator.

I'm assuming the dates for the playoffs/grand final have been set down since before the season started so thats why the season can't be extended.

I would hope games called off for weather if not playable would be a draw, but games where a club couldn't raise a side should be 24-0 first time.

Just had a look on the updated NCL site and you are right, South Wales 7 games to play in 3 weeks, Bramley, Kippax and Coventry six games in 3 weeks - in fact, only 3 teams have managed 15 games in 15 weeks. Summer rugby, don't you just love it.....

The problem with playoffs. Would rather have 12 teams and no playoffs in the league (not that 12 teams would have joined this year but next year hope we're in a proper NCL3 that size, guess there'd be promotion to play for).

South Wales Hornets and Bramley. They both got rained off.

Only 5 games in 3 weeks (yesterday was late kick off) and Bramley is planned for the bank holiday. No idea about Hornets though.

Very enthusiastic team Bramley were yesterday, credit to them.

I've heard that South Wales won't play again this season so I imagine you will get the points for that one.

Shame, but the game is dying off in South Wales. Their league is in a bad way too. Wouldn't be surprised if our game is off next week as well. Guess inevitable when a league is winding down to closure.

Games being postponed due to weather is nothing new in the NCL, but the winter league always had lots of gap weeks (even so it has often over-run). Bit harder when there are play-offs. The rest of the NCL has strong rules when clubs default games, but I guess if NCL3 is changing format completely next year, the threat of being chucked out is somewhat idle.

The threat of non admission to the NCL would have weight with Kippax but irrelevant to Hornets.

In fairness to Swales it must be dammed hard to get 17 lads to set off ever other week @ 8am to travel best part of a 300 miles round trip on average ( writing off nearly all the day) when your looking down the barrel of defeat. All teams in NCL 3 have embraced the ethos of a national league ( they travel more than the semi pro sides) & deserve praise for their efforts.

The NCL hope to add a division 3 of new clubs meeting full criteria. But I think the RFL may have additional plans given how high the number of applicants is so nothing's confirmed. I don't have the full details of any plans or know their viability

Without seeing the list I can't say. There's lots of Lancashire clubs that meet criteria so I expect most are from there.

Thats what the NCL committee check for before recomendation for acceptance to the league.
It has nothing to do with the RFL, only the delegates can move the goal posts if they wish to.

They seem to be scheduling fixtures up to 22nd September now? No idea how that works with playoffs.

Hardly the end of the world. Winter balance is much more dramatically shifted.

It will mainly be the new division 3, as division 2 is currently very Yorkshire biased (so may be balanced) and the NCL is hardly going to have to worry about prospective Yorkshire members being put off, looking at the Yorkshire Men's League.
