........other than to fill the coaching position and hopefully to finish the season with some pride, defence and at least six more points?
Is there a play-off for a £££ and if so what is the format?

There is £20k for the winners of the play-offs plus the title of "Champions". The league leaders do get the £50k prize as you say.

The format is :-

Week 1 - 3rd v 6th and 4th v 5th

Week 2 - 1st v 2nd (winner to final) and winner of 3rd/6th v winner of 4th/5th

Week 3 - loser of 1st/2nd v winner of 3rd/6th/4th/5th (winner to final)

I remember when .............................

"It is impossible not to feel a twinge of sympathy for Workington Town, the fall guys this season for the Super League's determination to retain it's European dimesion, in the shape of Paris. While the French have had every assistance to survive, the importance of having a flagship in a heartland area like West Cumbria has been conveniently forgotten." - Dave hadfield - Independent 25th Augsut 1996.

Did the Nets stay overnight? Been watching the last couple of months with interest without saying too much but one thing is for sure, the myth peddled by the ego's that it's some sort of jolly running an RL club at Hornets level has been well and truly busted.

Lets hope the recent changes are for the good of Hornets rather than in the interests of individuals.

Can someone just clarify, the coach has resigned so will now not be paid by the club. Instead he will be working as an unpaid "sporting director" giving his time for free as a Hornets supporter?

If he is then good on him but call me a cynic as I would have to question why someone with a young family from Widnes would commit his time to a 3rd tier rugby league club in Rochdale without reward.

As for 'What next', i personally would like to see much more local talent in the squad and team. With Mayfield, Cobras, Littleborough and Whitworth plus the successfull college sides all performing relatively well at the moment there's plenty of local talent floating around. It's worth giving the local boys a chance over the non-playing travelling crew from Wigan/Warrington/St Helens and Widnes just for the interest they will generate in their amateur clubs and the local community.

All we need is a coaching team capable of engaing the clubs, maybe with existing contacts and links....
