We will support the team more in hope than anticipation yet also knowing that, in derbies at least, surprises can happen.
I suspect we won't get a BP however.

After yesterday's abysmal showing BSJ, next week we'll be lucky to score at all - that would be the surprise!
Legs, Dews, Legs, 'cos Wigan do!

shocker yesterday !!
BUT ..............................
history proves without patch we have a fantastic record...do the research & you will see..its true
season over offically and players looking to impress fresh fields, dogs are on a roll
but a derby is a derby
and the Rams are due one of their kickass performances
so a close game with the winners winning by 8 whoever the winners are
should be the dogs.....BUT YA NEVER KNOW
get the feeling Batley are more worried about this game than we are

Spaven is probably the worst scrum half I've seen in a Dewsbury shirt. He has no positional play, can't throw properly and his kicking game is non existent. What happened to Andrew Tillotson? Surely there must be a half decent scrum half out there!!

Well you haven't seen many then Eddie.
Spaven is more of a pivot type of SH and doesn't take the ball to the line enough. He has a decent kicking game when he uses it (reasons why he doesn't are open to discussion) and is a consistent passer of the ball - similar to the sainted Barry eaton, in fact.
Believe what you see, don't see what you believe.

On paper and current form the game should be ours (Batley), but it's a derby so in many ways all that goes out of the window. Anything can happen. Personally don't think it will be the cakewalk some posters predict. I'll go for a tough, pretty even first 60 with the Dogs (hopefully) pulling away in the last quarter. Dewsbury 16 Batley 30.
Quite surprised at how you guys have struggled this year, even though statistically you've improved on last year so far. Both coaches admitted it was only a warm up up but the Rams looked excellent on Boxing day....big, fast and fluent. Looked very very promising, and beat us comfortably. Plus on paper you've got a number of players in Crossley, Faal, Craven, Buchanan, Spicer, Singleton and to a lesser extent Esders, Blake and Flanaghan who would get in most squads in this division. I cant imagine there's much difference between the 2 budgets of our respective clubs (Dewsbury bring in more from the Bar/Function Room and Car Boots with Batley perhaps getting a bigger amount of money from the Squadbuilders Association BISSA) so you do have to ask the question why Dewsbury havent achieved more. Is it to do coaching, tactics, motivation, etc.
One thing I have noticed in the handful of games i've seen this year (apart from Boxing Day obviously) is the glaring lack of a playmaker. Fev have Hardman and Kain, Fax Handforth, us Ben Black, Leigh Ridyard, Sheffield Brambani, and Keighley Sam Obst. It seems a big mistake on the club's part to rely on a youngster from Champ 1, a Duel Reg youngster, and Pat Walker, who for all the criticism he gets isnt a bad player, just not a playmaker or leader at this level. One decent half this year could have made all the difference.

cant argue on anything in there nick
on paper we have far more money rolling in thru carboot & Bar/Function Room than batley, from what ive seen lately the carboot must bring in close to 70,000 per year...if not close too it,Bar/Function Room if not around the same if not more
batley dont have either but can afford black, moore, mennell & kear...what we have & what youve got the maths for me dont tally up
yes weve running costs & debts...staff wages to pay & power & heating during the day for meetings.
i personally cant understand how batley does it sometimes...this is not a knock in any way or form at batley
in reality batley have done a fantastic job with very little.

Whoops meant to say Kain and Finn at Fev, not Hardman.
Your probably right about the budgets Coolie, although we've had substantial input from BISSA this year, which has been well documented, and really helped to boost the available coffers. As for Kear, although he will obviously be getting paid I dont actually think he'll be on big money. His main income comes from Sky and the various other things he's involved in. Sounds naive but I personally think his involvement is more to do with the enjoyment of coaching rather than for financial game. Alot of credit has to go to Kevin Nicholas too for the way he almost 'wooed' JK last season.
Perhaps like you say the running costs at the Rams are much greater than ours. Without wanting to rumour monger I also know that you guys offered pretty big money for a couple of players before the season, so it could also be that your paying out more than us in wages, especially to players like Crossley and Faal, etc who must have been sought after.
Maybe its down to coaching more than anything though, and we've been damn lucky to get someone of JK's calibre. Something that's been evidenced in the way that he's made previously not rated players, i.e Keegan Hirst into pretty fine ones. There's also they way he managed to procure the signing of Alex Walmsley too, who must now be the best forward outside SL. Still though there isn't that much difference on paper between the two sides, beside in the halves.
Without wanting to jump on a bandwagon, from a neutrals perspective it does seem like WJ has taken the club as far as he can, and in fairness he had a very good couple of seasons for you. In many ways its similar to us under Gary Thornton, who stayed a year or 2 too long and in many ways tarnished the creditable things he achieved in his early seasons as coach.

Gary Thornton was rubbish. I know that for a fact because Harold says so!
