Well it’s the morning after the Sunday afternoon before. Whilst revelling in the weekend’s events and achievements in Stratford and the other Olympic venues. Our beloved Hornets brought the Sunday evening back down with a bump. And any possibilty of promotion a distant probability.
London Skolars are by no means the easy points they used to be and take nothing away from them they seem to be moving in the right direction, which for Rugby League as a whole is helpful.

Whilst a busy week at Hornets off the pitch, I am hoping going forward that it’s a busy winter off the pitch as well. I personally feel this is the perfect time to assess the clubs goals, ambitions and future. Whilst we could all probably list them all right now. It’s not about paying lip service to what every sports clubs/fan wants and needs, it about how we embark on that journey of getting there.
This is by no means a pot shot at how the club is run, as the current board have done an outstanding job in first of all getting a club together and a team on the park, and making the supporters an integral part of the running of the club. They have also employed individuals to make us more than competitive in this division and stabilising the club as a whole. But now it’s time to move on or resign ourselves to the current levels for a very long-time.

How do we kick on? Again I feel this is the right time to sit down and assess the clubs short, medium and long-term future on and off the pitch.
Although Stankys role is clearer and the finer points of it are a little up in the air. The coaching side of his role has gone. As a club to kick on I feel we have a duty to advertise the role of head coach immediately, I think there is a presumption (understandable) that the job is Houghy’s.Whilst nobody can doubt Houghy’s commitment, energy and knowledge of the club, would it do any harm to test the current coaches market? I personally feel the club has a duty to explore this avenue. If Houghy applies and his current role gets the results required the job has to be awarded to him. What I wouldn’t want is for the club to employ a new man and realise 8 games into next season it is not working. The process starts again and Hornets have let another vital pre season & recruitment period slip away sometimes stabilty is everything, and Hornets of years gone by have been far from stable.
With league structure next season, and all being well, I can honestly see us competing at the top! Champions even? Why not? A bit farfetched, but a real possibility with next seasons structure in mind, a good pre season and recruitment and of course some luck from the man in black!

As I have said on a previous post, I feel Stankys new role can only be good for the club, he is driven and knowledgeable and I trust he will get a reasonable amount of support of everyone attached to the club in making his role work. I am sure John will make the contacts and bring some new investment and ideas to the club in a bid to move the club forward. As he said, he wants a new coach to crack on with coaching within the budgets he has to work with, it’s clear John was restricted this season and at times getting involved in issues he probably shouldn’t have. My only worry is that John could get either frustrated by restrictions or bored? I guess his new role is a massive change from the cut and thrust of day today coaching and banter with staff and players alike.

One thing I hope John does do prior to leaving is hand the Chairman a list of players the Club should be talking to about staying next season. This would be helpful to any player and new coach who he feels is good enough to play for the club.

Just saying!
Phil Bull.

Very good comments filipo.

Stanky's new role within the club should certainly get Rochdale Hornets in the public domain, and his drive & enthusiasm is beyond question.
Good luck to him, and all parties should be supporting him 100%.

Regarding the coaches position, I feel it is imperative that the new man is appointed as soon as possible to enable that vital stability within the club to continue. So it is up to the board to act quickly and appoint the right man to lead us to promotion next season.

Can't argue with those comments, i will say it again, to kick on we need to react before the season comes to an end, i feel its only fair to any incoming coach that he gets as much time as possible to get a structure set up HIS way.
