What will change with Marten Roden taking over. He has had a input in the coaching this season so I dont see any change.

What is the situation of the play offs will any team outside the top four be promoted if they reach the final or is it the top four after all matches have been played who will be promoted errispective of who is in the final.

If its the latter the play offs are just a cosmetic money making excersise withoutout any other purpose.

Top four go up. Play offs mean nothing and it would be typical of us to win them now (if we could get there)

Sad for TB who is a decent bloke and did his best for Oldham. But probably the right decision. Time to plan for next season and the new coach. Martin Roden will see out the season but we need a new man after that.

Too late - by about 2 seasons! Might be a decent bloke - but as a coach has not delivered, have continually said it on this message board.

Pointless decision at this point in time by CH, nothing to play for - but then he is a man who didn't consider promotion to be crucial (the dwindling crowds would suggest otherwise).

The club is on it's knees and the next appointment is absolutely critical. Get it wrong CH and the team will be playing in front of one man and his dog!!

COME ON OLDHAM!!!! COME ON OLDHAM!!!!!

I dont really see the point in sacking him now either.
If CH was going to sack TB then he should have done it when a change was needed not when we're dead and buried and only playing for a worthless play-off place.
Another poor decision by CH.

The man should have gone after we lost the first final,I don't think he has been given the boot for performances he has probably upset C H and like everyone else who upsets him he had to go,when we all know who should go.I have said it all along that Oldham supporters will not watch rubbish rugby league on an awful ground that has nothing going for it.Why have the club waited so long to get rid of a coach who at best could be described as average,I don't think that it will matter who the club appoint the damage of this season is enough to keep even the most diehard supporters away next year. What may help us is if CH left and tried to offload the club to genuine benefactors and not like him in it to make a salary.I hope I am wrong and things work out ok but with falling attendances in a poor league paying players will be very difficult we missed a glorious chance this year and I fear it was our last one.

Have said previouisly that TB had to go and so it was the right decision. But, as some have already said, it was the wrong time. I also agree with previous posts that the next appointment is critical. Maybe TB has gone now because there are some coaches out of work right now with the right calibre to take us forward and maybe CH didn't want to take the chance and wait to see if they were still available at the end of the season.

The next appointment will be very interesting and the right one could generate a large amount of interest, and possible support for next season. The wrong one could well have the complete opposite effect

All I can say to CH is, take no chances and go for the right guy not the cheapest!

TB is without doubt a nice bloke and he took on what was close to a sinking ship in Oldham and as Deakin (who though having the same end results in finals as Benson has proved his worth to those who know by doing a job at a successful SL side in Catalan, which begs the question what's wrong at Oldham that successful coaches elsewhere struggle here?) got us to 2 finals. At times given the financial and ground situation he must have been close to tears with the job, as I believe he genuinely cared and I do wish him well for the future. However, this sacking is a clear case of shutting the door after the horse has bolted. This side (never mind the off the field stuff) has been in free fall since last season. There's been no direction. Much of the play has been a shambles. We've barely been competitive. They've appeared completely at sea and the only possibility of changing what appears to be a losing culture would have been to change the coach earlier, probably after the last grand final loss.Martin Roden again appears a committed bloke and gives his best, but too big a risk for any long term role at that level. As said above he's played a large part in coaching the direction-less performances of the last however many games. At best he's a caretaker for the last few what are effectively meaningless games. It's important though to use these games for two things: to blow away the cobwebs and hangovers of the previous regime and season so far, and secondly to put the club in the shop window for a strong, opinionated, hard coach who sees it as a place worth coming to and to make this team rise from the ashes. Someone who can inspire and motivate players to want to give their all for him and with the rugby league knowledge to have clear game plans and alternatives when plan A isn't working. We need someone to create a buzz in the town and on the pitch. No more Mr Nice Guys...in this dog eat dog level of rugby they never come first.

Personally, I don't think CH should restrict his choices to coaches who are out of work. Still believe that he should get the best man for the job. If a coach who is in a job applies then he should look at that candidate in exactly the same way as any other.

Agree with Tony Mac on this one, a strong appointment is important to generate interest for next season, a weak appointment could well kill off more fans.
I dont think we'll have the revenue to appoint a decent coach so i'm not holding my breath.
