An RFL Operational Rules Tribunal has banned John Stankevitch of Rochdale Hornets from all involvement in Rugby League matches or the business of Rugby League with member clubs.

Stankevitch was deemed to have committed blatant and deliberate misconduct in his wilful disregard for RFL Operational Rules in his failure to pay fines imposed by two earlier RFL Tribunals.

Stankevitch was fined £1,000, £500 of which was suspended, after being found guilty of misconduct for abusing a match official following a Northern Rail Cup tie between Rochdale Hornets and Keighley Cougars.

The Tribunal also ordered Stankevitch to forfeit a further £250 which had been suspended from a previous misconduct charge.

Stankevitch failed to pay the fines by the given deadline and did not exercise his right to appeal and have a full re-hearing.

In handing down their decision, the RFL Tribunal ruled that under Operational Rule D1.12 (B) (v), Stankevitch is banned from the following activity:

- Involvement in matches;

- Attendance at Rugby League grounds on matchday;

- Involvement in the business of any member club.

Involvement in this context includes both paid and voluntary involvement.

The penalty will remain in force until full payment of the fines due is made. Stankevitch has also been informed that he has the right to appeal this decision pursuant to Operational Rule D1.33.

Not sure it's a witchhunt if you don't pay the fine or more importantly do an appeal.

Are the RFL meant to just allow players and coaches to pick and choose any fines or bans they pay?

Stankevitch might feel aggrieved, but that is why he has the right to an appeal.
With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

5 Officials ( I use the term loosley) who were all within a metre of JS when the alleged incident occurred, have all given statements to the RFL. All the statements contradict each other. No corroborating evidence -- No case to answer, they should shove their fines where the sun don't shine.

The RFL are about as good as a one legged man in an a*se kicking contest

Kind Regards.

Barron, How do you know the statements contradict each other ? Have you read them, if so, what do they say ?. If you haven't, then it's all hearsay. We know that the RFL are brainless at times, but as BR says, he's had a right of appeal, and he didn't exercise it,and he didnt pay the fines, so he's no excuse. I don't know wether he's guilty or not, but it does not look good on his part the way he's handled this matter.

Then it should of been an easy appeal. Much easier (and no doubt cheaper) than going to the lawyers now.

Let's be honest, I've never seen this before, the likelihood is that before the ban was imposed a fair few warning letters will have been sent. The timing of his stepping down now looks like an effort to minimise embarrassment.

Can anybody remember fines of this magnitude (£1000) being imposed on anyone in any tier of rugby league? I certainly can't recall any! Excessive by any standard, just what do the RFL think the pay scale is for a Championship 1 coach irrespective of innocence or guilt.
I was actually stood next to Stanky when these incidents happened and there was nothing directed at the officials only a few choice words for a couple of our players.

Sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth

When everything is hearsay you are probably on a loser.Will an appeal be heard by an independent arbitrater? Or has he lost the right to appeal now?

At the end of the statement it says he has leave to appeal Mick!

Risks becoming a soap opera, time to move on cut ties and start afresh. No excuse for failing to pay fine.

Unless we all know the full circumstances of the events that led to the fines then it is perhaps unwise to point fingers, the truth will out.
