Can't complain about a win but I hope we play a bit better when we come up against Halifax in a few weeks.

Maybe it was the whole derby day thing that put a load of pressure on both sides, leading to some terrible ball handling.

Rams seemed up for it all the way through, maybe a change in the backroom gave them a fresh boost.

A win's a win though and the valuable three points are ours so well done to all involved! Hopefully we'll rack up a big score V York to help if it comes down to score difference at the end of the regular season.

Plus, I didn't pay to see it so it was actually a winning win win situation! :)

Don't know quite what to say! Not a great game and Dewsbury have one ot two good players that could form the backbone of a good team esp Matthew Nicholson (Hope Fev are watching ). Batley looked the best team and only looked rattled after Esders barge into Maun caused us to loose our rag.

Wot Brown off-side :o check the scoreboard ;)

See ya on Boxing day!

All credit to Dewsbury they faught hard, Nicholson & Patch Walker top games for them but in the end our extra size and power wore them down and in the last 10- 15 mins it was how many. It was a mistake riddled game for the dogs but we all know we can and will play better .great result and terrific following to swell their gate.

i thought we actually kept walker out of the game and their other half backs out of the game. we had enough power on the bench where they played 2 half backs one prop and a winger. i thought ash,jc,potts and applegarth were out best players.

Spoke to several Bulldog's after the game and they were disaponted in their display so onwards and upwards to next week, any win at Dewsbury is good, tough place to go on that small pitch.

Scrappy, error strewn game, fairly typical of a derby really.

The main thing is we got the points. It's results that count at this time of the season and can surely be only a positive sign that we can win games without playing well. Full credit to Dewsbury too.

Thought JC, Ash (nice to see him back to his best in the last 4 games after a quiet season by his standards up to then) and Applegarth were our best players, with the 'Beast' having a very effective second spell. We always seem to struggle to create room at Ram Stadium so glad that trip is out of the way for another year.

Good Batley turnout too.

What is the difference in pitch sizes as a matter of interest?
Believe what you see, don't see what you believe.

go on then I will stick my head in the Lions mouth but be warned harold's on my side ;)

Smaller pitch equals less space, fewer gaps and suits a slower team. I await my critics

Spot on piggy a smaller pitch suits teams who cant play rugby ie one man rugby like dews do  It makes it a battle between the forwards and stops the creative players as their is'nt much room to create.

Postage stamp road as you call it is short but wide, where Dewsbury's track is very narrow like Hunslet's

I've got a feeling, he meant what is the difference between the Dewsbury pitch and the pitch at the Love Rugby League.com Stadium.

According to a posting someone put a while ago the following are the dimensions:

Dewsbury 92m x 62m

Batley 98m x 65m

Also stated were Hunslet 94m x 64m

Fev 88m x 70m

York 90m x 60m

and Toulouse was the largest at 100m x 66m.

Interesting that Dews isn't as short or as thin as the Batley fans think. ;)

However it is immaterial. Teams have to play on all sorts of pitches and overall it's that team that can cope with them the most, particularly those that could do with a stena stair-lift fitting that offer home teams the biggest advantage.

It hasnt really helped us greatly to be honest as our home and away record is exactly the same. In essence the slope only really makes a big difference in poor weather conditions. On a warm, dry day, although a slight advantage goes to the team playing downhill in terms of kicking, in many ways it's pretty much nulified.

I think the point the poster was trying to make was that Ram stadium isn't particularly conducive to free flowing rugby, which is evidenced by the large number of relatively low scoring games you've had this season, even though like you say it isn't perhaps as narrow as people thought. It just seems as if players (both sides) are very much bunched and space is at a premium. As said though teams have to adapt. In many ways the Rams should try use it to their advantage and build their style of play in accordance with the pitch, although the only downside is then having to try modify this for away games at much wider grounds.

Was nice to see some grass on it for once on Sunday though ;).

The stat's suggest pitch size/slope/altitude/orientation to the wind etc have no significant bearing on the overall points scored in any game and therefore the style of play.

These are the last 5 years average points scored;

Batley 51 F26 A25
Dewsbury 51 F25 A26
Leigh 51 F29 A22
Sheffield Eagles 53 F28 A25
