We are after some rugby posts but have not had to buy anything like this before.

Have obviously looked around on the web but wondered if anybody knew of any second hand ones that might be available in the north west?

Prepared to buy new if we have to but would obviously rather save the cash for other things if we could.

Also, does anybody have any experiences when buying new (prices, lead times, delivery) and advice?

We bought some this season. 900 odd quid for 7m posts. It cost the same again to have them installed - the amount of concrete recommended as minimum could be used to make a nuclear bunker - we had to go with this for insurance reasons.

We got them pretty quickly - came within a few days.

We get new (been told)10 metre posts delivered next week, old ones are going up on our 2nd pitch, we also have a set of posts laid at the side of our changing rooms but they must be the heaviest posts ever made.

Ours are very light indeed - one guy carried 2 of the vertical posts a couple of hundred yards, one on each shoulder. They are hinged, so are really easy to put up and take down.

I know our committee where looking at the hinged type, I think it's a company called Grimshaws who make them.

have you asked Bolton Mets? There are a set of posts in the changing rooms there. Probably council owned but they've been in there for a few years now and haven't moved!

We bought our own two years ago through a contact (will try and dig out and send to Jim) and cost around £1000 including VAT and delivery. Firm was in Norfolk.

We also got some tips from Salford's groundsman on how to install them. Best tip he gave was to buy large buckets, put some holes in the bottom and some stones (as water can seep inside of the base unit of the post and needs to escape) then concrete the base of the post into the bucket rather than concreting it into the ground itself - that way, you can dig out and relocate the base of the post in future years if you ever need to.

We installed the posts ourselves - around 8 players/supporters came down and did it on the promise of a couple of pints and we've not had a problem. Admittedly, we have some pretty practical people who were able to do a decent job.
