Warrington Wizards 34-32 Bristol Sonics

Amazingly, Sonics led for long periods and Wizards needed a converted try less than 5 minutes from time to grab the win. Given that we had a fair few second team players in the side and were low on subs, that's a pretty darn good performance.

Anyone know the score of the Midlands Premier Grand Final? Want to know how my brother got on (he plays for Leicester)

Leicester were by no means at full strength. Northampton started off on fire and were 14-0 up in no time. Storm came back to 8-14 but the Demons eventually got back on top and scored a couple of convreted tries to seal it. I don't think either of these sides are as good as they were last year, but they are easily the best in Tier 4 in the Midlands.

A bit like the Chargers game - we were awful in the first 18 minutes and were 22-0 down. From there until 5 minutes from time we were competitive and got back to 10-36, bombing a couple of chances in the process as well. Hope Valley got a couple late on that made the score a little bit flattering, but they did deserve it.

I really don't know what's going to happen next year in the Midlands. Until the NCL situation is resolved the rest of us are dangling, not knowing who is going to be playing where.

Yeah. My preference would be Leicester and Northampton stepping up and the other 3 either joining an expanded west midlands or having a few others join them in a premier. But the question is what league if any could/would Leicester and Northampton join?

Telford won 30-18. It was going try for try until a couple of unanswered tries put paid to Northampton's chances. Telford deserved he win though

Got to disagree there - Northampton are a lot better than last year believe me. Last year we just about fulfilled the league fixtures due to the amount of plates we lost. This new side is pretty young and will get a lot better, they have only payed 3 games ina bout 6/7 weeks.

I think there were a few glimpses of what the side can do, ball retention has normally been at around 65 - 70 % this year. Today it couldn't have bettered 45%.

The problem is the midlands is probably the weakest premier league in the summer conference mewning less standard of competition. The Premier south side that awaits in the nationals will be a while different kettle if fish in which basic mistakes wont be as easy to get away with.

Was a great game at Wilderspool. Heartbreaking to lose as we did but you have you give Warrington a lot of credit for that comeback in the last 10 minutes.While I never thought we had the game won, I did feel we were getting close. Not to be alas.

Having said that, I went today expecting us to take a beating so I'd have taken the bonus point when I got in the car this morning.

Big thanks to all at Warrington Wizards who made us very welcome. Still can't quite believe I've seen the Sonics play at Wilderspool mind!

Looks as if the Wizards confidence is shot but did ok to snatch the win at the end and will do them the world of good. Bristol kept coming and was a shame for them to lose it at end but it is an 80 minute game.

Southampton Spitfires 14 - 20 Portsmouth Seahawks

Brutal opening 20 with neither team scoring. The Seahawks then ran in two quick try's on 29 and 31 minutes to head out to a 8-0 lead and also scored in the 40th minute after back to back penalties gave them great field position. With the score 14-0 at half time it was still all to play for. The Spitfires had done well after been on the wrong end of a huge penalty count (9-1) some correct and some incorrect but it all evened out in the second half.

Portsmouth scored first and extended their lead to 20-0 on 44 minutes and the Spitfires looked to be heading for a big defeat, however great defence and team spirit enabled the Southampton team to fightback scoring try's on 61, 65 and 78 minutes making the score 20-14 in Portsmouths favour.

The Spitfires second from last set produced no score and then Portsmouth try to seal the win with a drop goal which was charged down giving the Spitfires one more chance to force extra time. The ball was spun wide and dropped leaving the final score 20-14 making Portsmouth the Grand Final Victors.

Great Game, Great Crowd and Great season overall.

Goit the impression Skolars only thought they had to turn up to win this final.
Certainly no contesting who deserved it.
Have seen Hammersmith a few times recently up at Eastern Rhinos and at home
against them. Really didnt think they would have won that.

According to Chris Wilson's excellent match report, Oxford won 59-58! Tevita Vaikona played and scored a few tries (as you'd expect).
