Phil I take it you weren't there yesterday?. Kevin penny looked happy enough running on with his trainers shirt on every other minute. Mort higson and ashall could be seen wandering around all afternoon laughing and chatting with fans .

Doesn't mean they are happy sitting in the stands it just means they are nice people, to not have them on the bench as an option is criminal
Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could only do a little.

Yes I know and so would I. If there was a deeper problem as is being suggested do you really think penny would be water boy? That was my point .

None of us guessed correctly. It seems the applied logic was that wingers should be selected based on their ability to drive the ball up the middle. During his long career Ian Watson has clearly taken a few too many knocks to the head. Perhaps we will see Neil Holland at 2 and Mike Morrison end his Switon career by playing at 5 against Leigh. Bonkers!
Rugby League - great game, shame about the administration.

Clearly you have lost the will to live Phil.I trust you have discussed your comments with Ian Watson.?None of us guessed correctly. Had we been in a position to advance in the league or indeed required a match win to stay up then I agree play what is "considered" to be the best player at each position. As it was this game meant very little to both clubs ( testimony to the low crowd ) and if the coaching staff are looking at options for next year then rightly so use these games.
It wasn't that long ago some on here were asking why Rob Foxen wasn't given a chance, well on sunday he was and in my opinion didn't do a lot wrong.

Foxen had a reasonable game,he was lucky that Featherstone were not aware he cannot catch a high ball.

Sorry my error I should have said Keighley. I wonder if he was found out at Oldham whilst on loan.

Point comprehensively missed again, Alan.
Thanks to Chris Brieley's efforts, Ian Watson's thinking behind the team selection for the Keighley match is laid out in an article on cbsport.org and the Swinton Lions website.
The quotes make it clear that this was nothing to do with rotating the squad and nothing to do with assessing fringe players for 2013's recruitment. So forget that explanation.Instead, the back 3 were picked with a view towards them providing "brute force". i.e. Picked on the basis of their ability to drive the ball up the middle.
If this is an insight into the thought processes Ian Watson applies to coaching, its for the best that he sticks to playing.

But wasn't it successful on some level Phil?
Didn't we get 2 points against a Keighley team that beat a Swinton team, including Kev Penny, AJ Higson and Richie Hawkyard at FB, 36-4 in May.
Most of the tries that night came through the inept defending (on the night), of Armstong and Penny.
In fact, the only Swinton try came through that man Gavin Dodd.
So maybe, instead of completely ignoring the evidence of a hiding, Watto thought about how to get some decent go-forward against a Keighley team that are 10+ points ahead of us and are a better team.
Well played Rob Foxen, Gavin Dodd and Al Hurst.

Btw, that's nothing against Tom Armstrong, he was one of our best defenders on Sunday.

In my view it is madness to rate Rob Foxen ahead of Kevin Penny as a winger. If Kevin Penny moves to a new club after this season, do you think it will be to a club higher in the league ladder than Swinton, or downwards? If Rob Foxen was to leave, which direction do you think he would go in?But wasn't it successful on some level Phil?

I think that we'd be the first supporters to say that in his career. Maybe he should stick around and get some consistency, he's done well this season.
