I've read a couple of match reports that both mention that Town missed the presence of Matty yesterday which does not surprise me but when you look at it logically it's not rocket science what Matty does!!!

Matty makes yards from the dummy half position by running straight and hard putting his body on the line often against bigger men and takes some awful clatterings but does it again and again. It takes not only skill but courage to do what he does so consistently match after match, but why can't others do it when he's missing?

If Matty is as big a miss as he undoubtedly is then why have we not got his signed up for next season? Whatever it takes we need him playing for Town next year.
I remember when .............................

"It is impossible not to feel a twinge of sympathy for Workington Town, the fall guys this season for the Super League's determination to retain it's European dimesion, in the shape of Paris. While the French have had every assistance to survive, the importance of having a flagship in a heartland area like West Cumbria has been conveniently forgotten." - Dave hadfield - Independent 25th Augsut 1996.

They must have offered him a deal and the other two lads. It's just concerning they're not signed. Maybe should offer Matty a bit more for the risk of letting one of the others go. I dunno ,I've no idea what's gaan on , but no doubt the suits want our best players to , but yes he's pivotal though.

Totally agree Keith, the problem is Matty will have played hooker his whole career, and although it's easy to say what he does, it is a specialist position, just like 6 and 7. and it's a position we didnt strengthen in during the off season. Most sides have 2 hookers in there 17 never mind in the whole squad, I know we had Darren king but he's been injury prone the last few seasons and for some reason olstrum hasn't been playing the last few weeks to fill in there. Matty likes to play as near to 80 minutes as possible which is fantastic but to not have a back up is a bit of a boo boo in my opinion.

He also makes around 50 tackles per match.

He's brilliant , end of. We can talk about everyone being replaceable but he's the exception to the rule.

We must have made him an offer by now. We should break the bank to keep him he is championship standard and more. I believe he has a good job on site on shifts so I guess he would want to stay local.

The board should be bending over backwards to sign this lad on, as its shown when he is missing Town do not play as well, his go-forward and defence is without dought the best in the league, but like I have mentioned on a different topic things arnt going to plan, again just a rumour, so come on board get it sorted before its to late!!!

Marty is a class act no doubt about it but we've broke the bank in the past and it didn't do us any favours in the long run.We need a pay structure in place that the finances can sustain for the long term, short term success is nice but not to the detrement of future years.I'm got every confidence in the board and I've got no doubt that they will do the right thing for the club.

If you look at our top 5 performers this year, you would have to go Brett Phillips, thacks, carter, miller and matty(in no particular order). We already have 3 of them lads signed on for next year, so let's not start to panic. If the worst comes to worst and we lose the other 2 then so be it. Everyone is replaceable, and how do we know that the board don't already have a backup plan if needed. If Brett goes you move ell miller to full back and find ourselves 2 new wingers(I would certain replace calderwood regardless). If matty were to leave then we would probably have to look for an ex super league hooker to be good enough to fill his boots, but hopefully we already have backups in the pipe line even if matty stays we need a good specialist interchange hooker.

Great post Wonky, let's have some faith in a great hardworking BOD who have been magnificent in getting us wher we are. Thacks and Miller are probably 2 of the top ten players in our league without a doubt, and we have them both signed on for next season. Haven have signed Rooney and fair play to them, but would you honestly swap those two for him ? Abolutely not. B)
Can we stop all this negativity and start getting behind them, we are having a nightmare with injuries and this is the only thing that has stopped us winning the league.

Exactly.... it ain't over til the fat lady sings.......

Any one of 3 teams can finish top the table on the last day of the season and Rochdale, Oldham , Crusaders and Skolars are all still in with a chance of the play-offs.

We just have to hope London can win against the Jambo's so they have something to play for against Donny. Then we just have to hope Donny don't travel too well, but with our luck lately we won't be able to field a team against Rochdale!!
The race is not always to the swift nor the battle to the strong, but thats the way to bet!
