Out of the teams I've either heard as applying or strongly rumoured to be the ones I could see managing it are: Kells, Pilkington Recs, Wigan St Cuthberts, Hindley, Coventry (depending on Championship 1), Nottingham, Underbank with the maybe 8th being Bristol (would be more travel than this year for them but a decent club). I expect there's a couple more applicants keeping their cards close to their chest that would be ready. Really though I was perfectly accurate about the demise of the Yorkshire League and the Pennine League keeping higher divisions at 14 yet you insisted I was wrong.

We all knew the CMS Yorkshire league was on it's last legs before the move to summer, the Pennine saved it from going 3 or 4 years ago by refusing to take anymore teams, the only reason it's opened it's doors fully this time was to stop teams only having a summer option.

Pennine Premier has 10 teams, Championship 12 but this could alter with a shock withdrawal from the Premier.

Not a thought, just what I've been told by a club secretary who heard some negatives (6 training & unrest in the camp) about the side and thats a week before the season starts.

That's sad. I hope they can overcome their problems.

In some cases it's not just a summer thing after all......

Sounded like a few had the mardy on, It's not the first time they have had this problem and turned their season round, I think they may bond better of the back of it.

IF the NCL was to move back to winter when would people propose the league start? Surley one of the problems with the Summer League was that there was no real break for the clubs

I don't buy into that, many clubs had problems with the short season and put it down to players resting for the start of the full summer season, my club played back to back winter and summer for 7 seasons and managed OK

Is it mainly reserve teams? Seems they've particularly had a problem. Division 4/5 development clubs seem to be much stronger but the reserve sides mainly in divisions 3 and 4 can barely raise a team. There was an issue in winter to some extent though.

The RFL seem to like statistics so here are todays........................

Of the 37 games with results so far today from U14's - U18's in the NWC, 2 were officially postponed, 11 were conceded 18 - 0 and 24 actually took place, meaning that less than 65% of the scheduled fixtures actually took place and the ones that did'nt were for no other reason than teams who could not fulfil their fixture due to a lack of players.

In one division at U16s, four fixtures were scheduled, 3 were conceded 18 - 0 to teams being unable to put out a side and the remaining fixture saw one team play with 10 men and the coaches say after the game that it would be the last game they would play due to lack of numbers and the fact 2 of the players were off to do other things as of next week.

It is now a very sad and sorry state of affairs at youth level in the NWC :(

Sam says the players have hay fever which is a summer ailment and has nothing to do with elite team building or other summer distractions

I officiated at one game and watched another today in the Yorkshire Juniors. Both great games with some cracking play and big hits.
North Derbyshire Chargers - join the stampede

Raising money for Prostate Cancer UK - ran the Spire 10 mile in August and the Worksop Half Marathon in October - more to come in 2013

Even more teams folding :(

Confirmation to all that Golborne Parkside under 18s has disbanded. Their players are now free agents.

Awaiting confirmation about the future of South Trafford Raiders and Burtonwood Bulldogs at Under 16s.

Wether you like it or not its a Sept - May season.

It will allow the U16's season to be completed in full, as was previous, in line with when they leave school and the allow those that are leaving the sport for various reasons at that point (Work, Armed forces, Further Education etc) to go and those that are staying to have their usual break (June/July) and come back in early August as first year U18's and bolster the remaining squad players from the previous U18's season.

This has is a rock solid model in comparison to what is currently taking place.

You will also have far less distractions of Holidays, Music Festivals etc for these young men from Sept - May than we currently have from March - November.

U16's & U18's has never seen the loss of players or teams like it has this year when it has operated Sept - May, so if it ain't broke don't fix it!

By the end of September we could potentially be at a point were we have lost 16/17 teams across these two age groups since March.

In the Nw Mens league again this week end there are several 24-0 and noticably some NCL A -teams with all three Oldham teams not putting reserves sides out again .
Genuine question for anybody connected with the Oldham based clubs whats gone wrong in your area ?

Oldham is very close to the Pennine heartland, infact it's a lot closer than us.
