Oldham is very close to the Pennine heartland, infact it's a lot closer than us.

My point is simple, if the winter was working and this summer it hasn't, go back to where it worked before any irreparable damage is done.

That was to do with a lot of their players playing for Pennine League clubs without transferring their registrations. The Pennine League seem to be showing a neglect for the registration process. Featherstone Lions said they faced a similar problem. It was discussed at the last NCL meeting. Obviously it is something that needs sorting out rapidly.

I'm not sure if any are, all I was saying if it's not working for them in the summer the Pennine league is only just over the hill.

The players who have left Fev Lions have gone back to the clubs that they have played at for years and are obviously more loyal too, not sure about Ovenden thou,
If players are leaving summer clubs to play winter what is that telling you & did the RFL give a hoot about taking whole clubs/leagues into the summer.

Which is just what the NCL did when certain teams in the pennine league started loosing players last February/March this year!! They signed them on with absolute no regard for the team and league they was leaving.

You can look at it two ways. 1/ What goes around comes around or 2/ Sit down and sort it properly round a table before its wrecked for good, i know which i would pick

I dont write on here often but by eke there are some blinkered views

Quality not quantity Wilber and your post is spot on, the switch to summer rugby has caused wider divisions in the game than already excisted the synics amongst us think it was a pre conceived plan to hairbrush out BARLA out of the equation.
The game needs an effective association to protect the best interest of the amatuer clubs, allowing BARLA to lose its place in the system will be damaging for the future of the community game.
BARLA needs to modernise ive re read the GENISIS report ( 2004) and Barla is more or less still operating the same.

Barla needs to re invent itself and get the respect of the clubs and leagues back .

In the Nw Mens league again this week end there are several 24-0 and noticably some NCL A -teams with all three Oldham teams not putting reserves sides out again .
Genuine question for anybody connected with the Oldham based clubs whats gone wrong in your area ?

Good question, but one very difficult to answer. Along with the usual stag parties - holidays - family commitments - work commitments etc., more than usual this season there appears to have been a distinct lack of commitment on the part of some players who just turn up when they feel like it, or ring the coach up at 12 noon on a Saturday with some lame excuse, or just don't bother turning up at all!!! As we all know, the first team takes priority, so on several occasions we have been left with 7/8 keen second team players without a game. Not sure if any of our players have moved over to the Pennine or NWC winter leagues yet, but we won't know the answer if those leagues are allowing registrations without transfers. Certainly looking forward to the winter break, in the hope that this summer season initiative brightens up soon, and as a Club we will be working hard behind the scenes to try and encourage players back to the Club!!

Ovenden did attract a few players from pennine clubs thhis summer but they all went back to their clubs, however a lot of their players have switchhed to pennine clubs mainly Boothtown and Illingworth. There are a variety of reasons for this, i know that the lads that were 2nd teamers got fed up of the lack of games.

Your completely correct and from the little bits that are filtering through from BARLA thats what they aim to do, it's going to take a little longer than some expect or want because they simply have to wait until the dust settles on the switch to summer as they don't want to be seen to be stepping on the RFL toes by going against signed agreements (Some by certain people who signed without consultation with their leagues from what I've been hearing)

Barbara it gets worse as time goes on, in our last out of 7 seasons playing in the summer we had between 45 and 55 training and on some match days got 14/15 turning up for a game on the saturday (That was a season without all the rain) when we asked why the answers where nearly all the same (partner demands)

During the winter months these demands from partners are nowhere near the same and the reason you think there has been a higher number of distractions this year than normal is simply because in the past they where not distractions because they happened in your closed season.
