Ambitious Championship club, Leigh Centurions have teamed up with Leigh Market for an exciting new venture, having secured a retail unit in the town's Market Hall where fans will be able to purchase club merchandise and match tickets.
The move has been welcomed by the Centurions, market traders, and the town's MP Andy Burnham. Centurions Chief Executive Trevor Barton MBE said;
"It is a great honour that the Local Authority and Leigh Market Traders' Association consider Leigh Centurions to be an integral part of our community."
"Frank Taylor, Richie Blackmore, myself and everyone here at Leigh Centurions will do all that we can to make the stall a roaring success and increase the footfall in our glorious market."

It's an indoor market, isn't it? Here's a picture of a retail unit there.

So, something a bit more substantial than a trestle table under a canopy, but quite a full-on shop either.

My first reaction to the thread title was that this was going to be similar to the Leeds Rhinos/Hunslet Hawks "exciting new partnership" - that Leigh Centurions would loan out several of its young players to be stallholders during the week.

It seems like a great move. CC clubs are always being urged to market their brand and boost their image in their community with a view to upgrading towards possible licnce applications. Seems like a winner to me.

Good move by Leigh, opening a shop is an expensive operation, and is always risky, especially with merchandising stock. A good half-way option from Leigh, I presume they are getting the stall for free from Wigan Council in exchange for either ground or shirt advertising.
Just what championship clubs should be doing, imaginative deals.

Good move -sure it has been done before but half-arsed.
I'd like to see us set up a similar unit in Bolton market, when we have more funds. North of Leigh is mainly football and a vast untapped hinterland
