the feckin soccer world cup has ruined my summer viewing. I don't know whether I'm coming or going with Holby.

I'll fill you in...Surgeon A is having a tumultuous love life, while Executive A is really feeling the strain. Nurse C is getting friendly with Doctor B. Consultant X's partner has a terminal illness and maybe its time they healed that rift. Shy and stammering junior Dr Y meanwhile fancies other junior Dr Z who likes a drink or two and ends up with unsavoury characters.

Etc etc

On a boring Saturday evening, (I know! I'm getting old!) there was nothing worth watching, so I tuned in to "The Men Who Made Us Spend" on BBC2. Made in conjunction with the OU, I think, but it looked at the marketing of products from Listerine and Zantac to Vitamin Water and moved on to the use of HGH (yes, Human Growth Hormone!) as a means of preventing ageing and finished with a Las Vegas sales symposium (?) for the anti-ageing industry. Dear Lord above! Talk about a bunch of lying, dissembling, two-faced ********s, I couldn't believe they had the nerve to claim scientific backing for the snake oil they are pushing. And people are buying it. Billions of dollars worth of it. Why didn't I think of selling flavoured water as a health aid and making a huge fortune? I blame my teachers. ;)

I watched a bit of a programme earlier on Channel 5, 'Britain's biggest Holiday love rats' or something. Cracking stuff :).

Then Young Ones on GOLD with The Damned in it, quality.

Watched 2 episodes of Orphan Black at the weekend. Seemed very good and certainly worth watching more.

And that's season 1 finished. Thoroughly recommended!

Tonight, ahaead of the Games, BBC1 are showing a programme called 'The Seven Wonders of the Commonwealth' including a section on PNG. Just a heads-up for those who like to spot RL shirts.

Recorded it, but not watched it yet. His previous documentaries have all been excellent.

A bit late to the party but we've been really enjoying '8 out of 10 cats does Countdown'. Much better than the real thing (both Countdown and 8 out of 10 cats) and I've discovered the delights of Rachel Riley, much to my wife's annoyance.

Anybody else watching Utopia?

I really like it. There again, I've always been partial to a good conspiracy theory.

Good question - he seems to have disappeared. The most recent thing on Wikipedia is him presenting "a music show for British Airways on-board listeners as part of their in-flight entertainment". He knows his music, and maybe BA are paying good coin for the show, but it's a bit low-key for a former national broadcaster.

Either no one watches much TV anymore or people are too embarrassed to admit what rubbish they are watching to post it in this thread.

Which is where I come in.

New series of Celebrity Big Brother (Ch5) started this week, taking the 'who the hell is that' normally associated with this show to new extremes. A motley bunch of people from other reality TV shows (Strictly, TOWIE, Geordie Shore, Benefits Street), a faded popstar, a faded soapstar, a sprinkling of unknown Americans, an unhinged Hollywood star (the genuinely famous but scary Gary Busey, to whom the years nor the drugs and alcohol have been kind) and some sportsfolk; boxer Audley Harrison and transsexual boxing promoter Kellie (formerly Frank) Maloney.

It's garbage, but I shall, of course, be hooked! :P

Slightly further up the reality TV food chain is Commando School (Ch4), following the progress of new recruits in Royal Marines training. I'm watching this as a friend of mine has been through the process. The admiration I had for them before is only increased from watching what they have to do to complete their training. And this is just the sanitised, edited version.

I've also been watching The 100 (E4), a better than average US drama about survivors from a space ark coping with life on a post-apocalyptic Earth. No doubt it'll be cancelled half way through, leaving viewers up in the air. Grrr.

Tomorrow night (Thurs) there is an hour long special on Ch4 catching up on last year's excellent Educating Yorkshire series, and this weekend is the big one: the return of Doctor Who to Saturday evenings for the next 12 weeks, starring Peter Capaldi. Marvellous!
