Revised rules for the RFL Championship season in 2013 require clubs to have a minimum ground capacity of 3000. John Charles Centre For Sport Stadium ground capacity is currently listed at 2450.

Following positive discussions with Leeds City Council a risk assessment has been undertaken to assess the feasibility of utilising the grass banking opposite the main stand for spectator purposes on match days. Whilst the assessment clearly showed that temporary barriers and additional stewards would be required to make the space suitable it concluded that the grass banking could hold upto 1000 spectators safely. 

Following further discussions with the RFL we are pleased to announce that they have accepted that the ground capacity at JCCS now stands at 3450, allowing us to compete in the Championship next season.

We would like to thank the Council and the RFL for their support in this process.

On a separate note our current lease is due to expire in 2015. We are pleased to announce that discussions have already begun with the Council on securing a long term lease beyond 2015.

I know for a fact that Leeds City Council conducted stringent risk assessments on all parts of the grass banking.They imported in several bus loads of overweight Widnes fans wearing different forms of footwear from flip flops to ballet shoes and carrying different take aways from burgers to chicken wraps.They were left to roam free for 30 minutes with no major safety issues identified.
The only problem they found was an overspill of ketchup on the hot dogs and they have been banned form the Stadium menu.

Good point, although I don't believe whether or not their grass is more slippery (sp) is at issue. I understood the difficulty that our club faces is with the insurance which wouldn't cover any injuries sustained from spectators using the grass bankings.

As far as Hunslet are concerned the next point is to ensure that they have sufficient seated capacity to meet the criteria, especially when they are flooded out with Rhinos fans. .

Could the problem be sorted if a sign or even a picture was put up saying if you want to stand on the grass you do so at your risk,and the club will not be libel for any falls and slips that may happen to you.Its like when you leave your car in a car park,signs are everywhere telling you if your car gets broken into,its part of the risks in leaving it there.

The RFL provide all clubs with public liability insurance and that is what Dewsbury have so it is a club decision to ban the grass area.
