Ray Hill, Graham and Margerat Liles, Sean Claudery, Sean Mallinson, Geoff Gray and that other Gray family that had about 3 daughters that always were there. Strange how people can support a club for years then suddenly stop going, surely its in your blood?

Id say around 100 people who used to sit on the top deck, Gaz Jinks, Duffton, Higgy, Jaffa, Alchi, Simon the list is endless. shame really because if half of the people who dont bother now, came back for a season, it would double our crowds and would mean a better team on the pitch.

sorry should have been 1999
you should have had 2 parts to your question-- people who don't come anymore. and why they don't come.

Ah well now, the second question is much easier to answer than the first one !! ...

It's been 13 years now, so under the law of averages, at least 15% of them will be dead.

A similar percentage will have undergone life-changing circumstances .. moving away from the area, getting married and having kids (not necessarily in that order), redundancy, declining health, etc, etc.

But I think the largest percentage will still be those who gave up on the club, and probably the game, in the aftermath of the events of 1999.

I believe a lot of problems started after the debacle of 1999 when a lot of fans believed the coffin lid was being nailed down. Many supporters drifted away after that season but continued to be interested in the clubs fortunes(or misfortunes) from a distance. Some of these fans slowly came back to support the club again myself included and continue to do so. What is needed to do now is to get club officials out into the community and schools marketing the hunslet hawks brand with incentives ie: free tickets to get people to games.

We've given thousands of tickets to schools this season and have had less than 50 taken up, Barry is in the community every day as part of his full time roll, I don't think we've ever been so active, but there's plenty more to be done, but it's hard when we only have 2 full time members of staff and everyone else voluntary with full time jobs themselves but we will keep plugging away, we have to!

I fall into the same category. The bit about the "coffin lid being nailed down" is spot on - why bother was my view. Some 18 months ago Robinhood Hawk convinced me that things were on the up and got me back involved, and I'm glad he did. We are now at the beginning of Hunslet's next chapter. The work that is being done in the schools and community won't come to fruition over night but it is rasing the name of "Hunslet" in people's consciouness. A bit of success on the field is what we now need to build some momentum behind that good work.
