I believe the Swinton club has refused permission for the 'Centurion Radio' team to broadcast Sunday's game, 'live'.

That's a great shame really, as it now prevents Leigh supporters around the World, (and Swinton's) from listening to the game. We believe that the greater exposure afforded by live broadcasts has helped to raise the profile, amongst supporters and, importantly, sponsors, of Leigh Centurions. It's a shame that Swinton don't seem to want to share in that exposure.

Still, perhaps this decision might swell Sunday's gate to 5, or 6,000? ;)

As this is a Swinton "home" game surely it is upto swinton who they allow to broadcast. You had your home game earlier in the season and i fail to see why swinton should allow the opportunity of giving extra exposure to your sponsors.
I sympathise for the spectators but there is a fair chance that GMR will be at the game and if so they will no doubt do a feature as it is a local derby.

Remember Swinton pay a rent for the ground to the same landlord as you do therefore they are more than entitled to call the tune at this game.

Lets hope it is a good match and if there are any fans who are sat at home waiting to listen on the radio get down to LSV, as far as we are concerned it's going to be a good four months without a sunday fix.

What a joke Swinton are (the decision makers, not the fans). Don't they realise that this was an opportunity to reach a wider audience (we get loads of general RL fans listening in as well as those who live around the country and abroad), but it shows what a small minded club they are and it's hardly any wonder they're struggling like they are.

Perhaps they were worried it might affect the gate, but I can state categorically that in the 9 months we've been doing the broadcasts,I have yet to hear one single person saying that they're not bothering to attend the match because it's being broadcast on the radio.

Oh dear Swinton I fear for your future.

How funny that is when one of our sponsors is the LSV who happen to be your landlords.

You can get Radio Manchester almost worldwide. What is the problem. If there is any sponsorhip involved I am sure an agreement/conpromise can be reached between the clubs.

Every little thing seems to lead to people fearing for our future. Get a grip.
Having said that I don't know why the broadcast hasn't been allowed.

Hi Marshy.

I fully accept that this is Swinton's home game, and that it is theirs to organise. Our sponsors wouldn't be getting a mention at this game, for that reason - it is Swinton's home game and it is Swinton's sponsors who would be getting the mentions on the P/A, and be picked up by our radio microphones. As yet, we don't give radio plugs for our sponsors, so none of ours would be mentioned.

Also, it would have been an opportunity for Swinton's name/brand (and ours, obviously) to be broadcast further afield. I mentioned the Leigh supporetrs 'around the World', and that's no exaggeration - we have regular listeners in USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Obviously these folks can't get to our games - perhaps Swinton have fans in that position, or lapsed fans who may pick up on the broadcast and have their interest fired again?

Radio Manchester may be at the game, although I suspect their coverage could be limited, given that the dreaded football season has started again. We have received some excellent comments on this initiative, from Yorkshire club supporters - both involved and neutral - for our broadcasts, who have expressed gratitude at being able to listen in to a FULL LIVE commentary.

Personally, I feel that Swinton have 'missed a trick' here, to gain some FREE publicity, and have come across as narrow-minded to Leigh supporters.

How many times have Radio Manchester broadcast your games this year? And have they ever done a full 80 minutes broadcast?

As for advertising, the only time our sponsors are mentioned are at the beginning and maybe towards the end of the broadcast, and these aren't Leigh Centurions sponsors, just the radio broadcast sponsors (a grand total of 3 of which one is the LSV) so to use that as an excuse is quite frankly, laughable.

But will Radio Manchester broadcast the full 80 minutes? No question of compensation for sponsors, Parky, as ours wouldn't have been mentioned. We are trying to provide a service for folks who can't get to the game - and get our name/brand 'out there'. Swinton would also have benefitted from that exposure.

What reasons did the club give you for not allowing the broadcast?

Mark,

In response to our request for press box accreditation for our video and radio team, we were advised that they couldn't "sanction the live broadcasting of this game to the Leigh local radio station." There were no reasons given, and the decision of course is the Swinton club's right. I, and many others, feel that our supporters who can't get there, for whatever reason, are being let down. Obviously this applies in Swinton's case too - and those from Featherstone, Halifax, Sheffield and Batley, who have an interest in what happens at LSV.

And yes, we do get listeners from those places. Obviously, we have to provide a full translation service for them!

Ah well, an opportunity missed, in my opinion.

Cheers,

Alan.

Why would you fear for OUR future because we're not on YOUR station?

Surely it's purely down to Swinton, why put it on here and complain to us?

Radio Manchester will be broadcasting, just confirmed on Rugby League hour. For any of your world wide spectator base can they not get this on line, if so problem solved.
The fact that a couple of you are belittling the Swinton club is laughable also, simply because your club can't have it's own way.
Quick question, did you lot kick up the same fuss when you played at the likes of Batley,Featherstone etc, all away games.

GMR can't cover United games so I can see us getting a full 80 minute commentary. I'm pretty sure that's better coverage and better for Swinton as it's (fairly) neutral.

Simply because if your Chairman can't see the benefit of having the game broadcast then he's living in the dark ages. Obviously it's his choice and if he wants to act like a spoilt brat then that's entirely up to him.

. The club may have good reason to refuse permission for the broadcast, without knowing the full facts it's difficult to formulate an opinion.

Marshy,

I've just checked my posts and don't think I've belittled your club. I've just tried to pass an opinion on why we broadcast, and how I think it's a missed opportunity for both clubs.

As for Batley and Featherstone, their facilities aren't good enough to broadcast from - heck, most Yorkie teams haven't got electricity yet! ;) (oops, now there's a bit of 'belittling'!) However, we hear that your home ground has excellent broadcasting facilities, ( ;) ) and were hoping to get the chance to use them!

Cheers,

Alan.
