Bryce, I am fairly sure the reason Uniteds games arn't broadcast by the BBC is down to Mr Ferguson's dispute with them.GMR can't cover United games so I can see us getting a full 80 minute commentary. I'm pretty sure that's better coverage and better for Swinton as it's (fairly) neutral.

Alan, no your so right you didn't, you merely put forward a statement. Your fellow supporter Mish did his best to slate The Lions.......no gripe with you Alan.Marshy,
I've just checked my posts and don't think I've belittled your club. I've just tried to pass an opinion on why we broadcast, and how I think it's a missed opportunity for both clubs.
As for Batley and Featherstone, their facilities aren't good enough to broadcast from - heck, most Yorkie teams haven't got electricity yet!(oops, now there's a bit of 'belittling'!) However, we hear that your home ground has excellent broadcasting facilities, (
) and were hoping to get the chance to use them!
Cheers,
Alan.

Way off the mark.
The reason Radio Manchester has not covered United matches in recent years is down to money, or to be totally accurate - media rights.
As well as developing their own TV and radio stations, United has sold the rights for local radio commentary to a succession of commercial operators over the last 10 years or so. Real Radio / Century, Key 103 / Magic 1152, Xfm have all had a turn. United has tended to stream the coverage from their chosen "partner" over the web via its website.
BBC still covers United games on the radio, but at a national level on 5 Live - national radio coverage is dealt with in an over-arching deal for the whole of the Premier League.
The only practical impact of Fergie's dispute with the BBC was that for many years he refused to do the post-match interview for Match of the Day.
Rugby League - great game, shame about the administration.

Well thank you for that Phil.Way off the mark.

Personally I couldn't care less why the BBC don't broadcast on Man Utd games but obviously I don't wish to be accused of spreading rumour about them and so i retract my statement.

Meanwhile, unless there is some good reason such as RFL rules or binding commercial contract - in my view the Leigh community radio team ought to be allowed to do their broadcast.
Its hardly the case that preventing such a broadcast would make all the difference to this feeling like a true Lions home match. Everyone knows that it isn't.
We still haven't had any announcement of the "home" venue for 2013. It is to be hoped that there is a good spirit surrounding Swinton Lions playing at LSV, particularly as there are not many other suitable venues of requisite standard available in the area and Agecroft is a long distance away from being ready - so the relationship may have to be sustained at least for another year.
In these circumstances, an ongoing spirit of cooperation is very valuable and worth considerably more than a pretty pointless piece of one upmanship.

Another minor event being blown out of all proportion really though isn't it?
Good to have loads more conjecture though based on opinion.
If it was Leigh against London I could see the value of it but seeing as its swinton v Leigh at both our home venues then who really is missing out?!

No one is really missing out if Radio Manchester are broadcasting the whole 80 minutes (though I've yet to see them do this) but I'm sure you appreciate the fact that not all Leythers/Swintonners live in or around Leigh? (What do you call a person from Swinton anyway?).
However, forget the radio for a moment, we're not talking about a multi million pound operation here, we're two Championship clubs who happen to share the same ground and I would have thought that it was in both our interests to help each other out rather than doing our best to pee each other off, which is what seems to be happening in this case (there are many other issues/demands besides the radio).
I just hope this petty case of oneupmanship on swinton's part is worth it.

This forum is now a joke. Every thread seems pointless and unrelated to rugby. I'anson and Ainscough re-sign for the lions, but people would rather moan about a referee or talk about the manager of a football team or the BBC.

Without getting to involved in this debate, Leigh radio do broadcast from away grounds that have the facilities to do so, mish will maybe give a list of grounds they have broadcast from this season. All the best Ian.its simple, you dont have your radio at AWAY games and this is a away game.
even worse for you lot, the lions WIll end their season with a win! (hopefully)
