Dont think swinton where ever going to win today but they didnt help them selves with the silly penalties and very poor tackling, especially down swintons right flank

Thought we tried really hard till that try was disallowed for a push no one saw then Leigh went straight down the pitch and scored off a huge forward pass.
Then it was game over.
Loads of effort from some. Darren hawkyard was immense.

The current Leigh side doesn't have as much flair as the one under Ian Millward, but were clearly by far the stronger side. Fact is the 2012 squad lacking Higson, Penny, Walker, Forster and Riley hasn't got the firepower to compete with the better sides in the Championship.

It was a very creditable effort from the Lions to keep the line intact for the first 20 minutes or so, but no surprise whatsoever given the team selection that a kick to the right wing area gave Leigh an instant dividend. Very predictable too that Foxen and Dodd then managed the feat of both being turned inside out by the same man to start the rout in earnest. Like headless chickens they were, the pair of them.

Seemingly the coaching staff had forgotten just how bad the Foxen - Dodd pairing is defensively. I really hoped we had seen the end of it last season. Hopefully this will prove to have been their swansong, at least as a right wing partnership.

Well played to Darren Hawkyard, he put in an excellent shift in both defence and attack. He has proven himself this season to be a player that can definitely cut it at Championship level. Proof that there is still talent in the amateur game waiting to be discovered and developed. It is to be hoped that he will be retained for 2013.

David Mills took the ball up very strongly today. Hard to wonder whether the coach he was trying to impress for next season was Paul Rowley or Steve McCormack. Time will tell.

Dale Cuniffe seemed to be concentrating more on chats with the crowd than participating in the match. Already in Australia mentally.

Nice to see Alex Hurst looking totally over his injury. Didn't do anything too spectacular, but he's had a very interrupted season and there is a reasonable chance we still haven't seen the best of him. Definitely worth retaining for 2013.

Can Ian Watson please retire now. His legs have reached the stage where games against the better sides at this level pass him by. Always a couple of seconds too slow with his distribution, was consistently putting those around him under pressure. Plus it doesn't set a good lead when he tries to ref the match.

Mark Smith was again the most solid tackler in the side and assured when in possession. Strong candidate for player of the season.

Nice piece of running from Ainscough for his try.

Tommy Gallagher made his point very well that he ought to have been used a lot more extensively last season and it really was a great pity the Lions did not retain him for 2012, as I believe they had the opportunity to do so.

The earlier parts of the season showed a lot of promise, but it has all gone out with a bit of a whimper. From this point quite a big rebuilding job is needed to have a competitive side for 2013.
Rugby League - great game, shame about the administration.

Cunniffe got knocked senseless in one tackle, got up staggered around and then smashed a Leigh player to bits. I suggest you get a look at the stats for his tackling. But I know youre not keen on facts....

Otherwise for once you talk a lot of sense.

He got Mullered by Tommy Goulden and was out on his feet , I`ll disagree about how he got up and smashed a Leigh player to bits but no doubt you`ve got the facts to back it up .

Darren Hawkyard without doubt player of the season with another great effort today! one can only assume that Penny is looking elsewhere for his rugby next year as his omission for the last few games cannot be based on his performances this season.an interesting close season ahead,we have done reasonably well competing at this level,do we want to step up another gear next season?

Well I'm pretty sure he did get up and smashed someone.

A Swinton side playing for nothing and and Leigh side playing for 2nd. No idea why our try was disallowed. The forward pass was just missed in play. Penalties have killed us all season.

Agree with Phil on pretty much all of his points.

Agree about Darren Hawkyard, huge heart and desire to play for the Lions.
Penny? I haven't a clue. Has anyone? He was skipping around like a spring lamb before the game but would not make any attempt to catch the high kicks. Rib injury maybe? Either way we've missed him and AJ.
Who do we lose and who to bring in?

Well he got mullered in the 2nd half on the try line near the South Stand, can`t remember him making a smashing hit in the corresponding set, but I might have my eyes on back to front it has been known.
Thought you were guilty of poor discipline regards challenging the ref`s decisions, we did it a few years ago and it`s infuriating as a fan seeing your players doing that. The referee won`t change his decision will he.

Agree with most Blakemore but not Foxen. He has had more than enough time for me to reckon he isn't up to standard in defense and doesn't score enough to compensate.
No Higson by all accounts.
Not a lot to go on there then!

Foxen on higsons wing would work nicely its just dodd can't be trusted as a centre! And as for mills, can we sign better? Second half of the season he has been good, people are just still on his back after the lazy first half

Its an appointment at specsavers for you too, then.

While David Mills made an unconvincing start to the season, if you take an objective look at yesterday he made significant inroads every time he was given the ball. Didn't get much support from most of his colleagues in the pack insodoing, either.

The guy clearly has the ability. The key is getting him consistently motivated. If that puzzle was solved he could easily become a cornerstone of the side.
