York City Knights are delighted to announce the signing of Featherstone Rovers full back Tom Carr. The 21 year old joins the Knights having been part of the Rovers first team squad for the last couple of seasons and will link up with the Knights for pre season training in November. Carr has been a prolific points scorer for Featherstone’s outstanding under 23’s team for the past few seasons and more recently starred in the Rugby League 9’s competition at Headingley, where Featherstone were runners up. He has made two appearances in the first team this season but has struggled to gain a regular place due to the consistency of Ian Hardman at fullback. Carr is also a very accomplished goal kicker and recently kicked 12 from 12 in Featherstone’s under 23’s grand final win over Oldham.

Incoming Knights Head Coach Gary Thornton was delighted with the signing,

“I’m delighted to have signed Tom for 2013 season. He first caught my eye playing for Featherstone in the RL 9’s in 2011, and I’ve kept track on him since. He has been part of their first team squad for a couple of seasons now, but has had limited opportunities due to their large squad of experienced players. He’s a young, ambitious lad who is desperate to prove himself in first team football, just the type of player I’m looking for – hungry for success! He is an exciting player who can cover a number of positions, but full back is where he is most dangerous, with his good footwork and evasive skills. He will be an exciting addition to our back line and I’m really looking forward to working with him, and I think he will soon become a firm favourite with the supporters.

Commenting on the move Carr said,

“I am really looking forward to becoming a York City Knights player and to have the opportunity to play in the first team and show what I can bring to the squad. I enjoyed my time at Featherstone but feel that I need to be playing regular first team football, and after speaking with Gary (Thornton) he convinced me that York was the right place for me”.

The club are currently in discussions with a number of other players and hope to make further announcements over the coming weeks.

If Hunslet keep signing all their new players from us cant see them doing any better next season than this, at least we will be bringing in better players to replace the ones that are leaving. B)

Where you going to find all these better players from who are all available and want to actually sign for York?

You'd be surprised who wants to play for York. Most of them are tied into long Super League and NRL contracts unfortunately.

Fancy.
