My 6 year old son has recently started playing rugby and I have bought him one of these T-Shirts with pads in. I'm not thrilled with these as they're not a patch on the protection offered from shoulder pads when I played 20 years ago.
Are these the only product available? I have spent hours on the internet looking for the older style but with no success.

have you tried cutting a hole in a sofa cushion (poncho style)? this should give your son the look and feel of old style shoulder pads.
