German international Jimmy Keinhorst, 22, has signed a new three year contract with World Champions Leeds Rhinos after producing a string of impressive performances for the club.

Keinhorst, who is about to start his third and final year of a Sports Science degree at Leeds Met, played at Wembley in the Carnegie Challenge Cup Final in only his fourth senior first team appearance and made his first start in last Friday’s win over Salford at Headingley Carnegie.

The three year deal, which will run until at least the end of the 2015 Super League season, will mean that he becomes a full time member of the first team squad whilst combining that with his studies at the start of next season. He commented, “I am really happy to have signed a long term contract with the club. Studying at Leeds Met has been great for me and I definitely would not have got the chances I have had in Rugby League without the close ties between the university and the Rhinos."

Rhinos Head Coach Brian McDermott added, “Jimmy has impressed everyone at the club this season with his performances for the Under 20s and the first team and he deserves this new deal. For a 22 year old to have played at Wembley in his fourth senior appearance is an incredible achievement and something that will stand him in good stead for years to come. Jimmy is learning all the time and, no doubt, there will be times when things are not progressing at the current rate but we have a track record of supporting our young people through those tougher times and allowing them to fulfil their potential."

Glad to hear it, I like the look of Keinhorst
Medway Dragons Wheelchair RL player. Leeds Rhinos, St Albans Centurions and North Hertfordshire Crusaders fan. Also follow (to a lesser extent) Catalans Dragons, London Broncos, South Sydney Rabbitohs, Jacksonville Axemen, Vrchlabi Mad Squirrels, København Black Swans and Featherstone Rovers

I think this is a good signing for the Rhinos.....it has the potential, if Keinhorst keeps on improving, to free up trying to target another centre and concentrate on added depth to the pack over the off season and next season

Keinhorst has shown great defence each game and also chemistry with Hall which bodes well. He needs to get some more 80 minute games under his belt as I am guessing apart from v Salford he has not played close to a full game for a couple of months.....once that is up to speed I think he will slot in nicely

Good to see the Rhinos pushing through young talent again

Still very raw but has much potential. I got him to go to Halifax a few years ago but then they dropped the academy team they had. Big mistake!! Glad to see Jimmy play at a level I and others thought he could achieve if given a chance. Well done Leeds and I feel this goes to show that the changes of the academy is wrong. The less chances given to people both at academy level and at other levels to make the grade is bad both for Sl clubs but for the game as a whole. Theres people out their at various levels who maybe have missed the normal route but still are good enough. They need to be giving more chances to achieve that and I am not sure the new changes will allow that to happen as much
