"It has been confirmed by the RFL this afternoon that Barrow Raiders' application for promotion to the Championship for the 2013 season has been accepted.
Although finishing in second place in Championship 1, Barrow still had to satisfy the RFL that the ground and club administration met the laid down criteria and the club are delighted that they have ticked every box with the exception of the floodlighting which falls short of the required standard.
However, the RFL have accepted Barrow's commitment to replacing the lighting system by the end of 2013.
Promotion is a fitting reward to all concerned with the club for some hard work both on and off the field over the last nine months and also for our superb supporters who have done much to assist in so may ways since last December.
The club has been led through these difficult times by Chairman Jimmy Tongue and that has not been an easy task. With the target for the year now confirmed as being met Jimmy feels the time is now right for him to move aside and has informed the board of directors that he now wishes to vacate the chair, though he intends to remain on the board as a director specialising in Health and Safety issues.
The new Chairman is to be David Sharpe with Alan Park filling the Vice Chaiman's role.
With the club now looking forward to 2013 and the challenges that will bring, there will be announcements within the next week with regard to the make up of next year's squad. Negotiations continue with the current playing staff and announcements will be made as and when players re-sign for the club."
