Think a lot of stuff on here is taking credit away from sheffield - they really can be a quality side capable of beating anybody in the division. Losing away to them isn't a disgrace, and I'll bet they'll beat better sides than batley in the playoffs. Roll on BD
I don't think any disrespect is intended GOR. Sheffield did what they had to do very well. No complaints about that and they ARE a very good side. However, Batley were, at best, atrocious (with a bit of bad luck thrown in) and very palpably contributed to their own downfall. We would have lost to ANY side from our division today IMO. As a side note, Stokes is a truly dreadful referee backed by a team of dolts on the touchline (and that is completely unrelated to today's result - Sheffield would have won comfortably even if we'd had a decent ref). No doubt he'll be fast-tracked to SL next year.
I also think Paul Mennell should be given a mention today (and the outgoing Ash Lindsay). Both tried so hard today - some of their team-mates not so much so, particularly when the going got tough.
I have no axe to grind with Sheffield and I wish them all the best at Halifax. Now to write a very abridged match report.

I think that the Fax v Batley game last week took a lot more out of both sides than people have given much thought to and affected their performances.
In that game both sides really gave it to one another for a full 80 mins.
As a result both sides looked not at the races this week both physically and mentaly.
Fax v Eagles will be another game where anything could happen.
Close game, big win for either side who would be a bookie setting odds for this one.

As Danny said in his post match interview the Eagles are a good solid side who do the basics correctly and do not make many mistakes. They wait till you make a mistake and then pounce. He is spot on, how many mistakes did they make? not many. What did we do? A Sheffield drop out - try to them! Batley penalty - try to them! A kick through which was never going to roll dead - we watch it and they pounce and get a hand to it! 4 players around the winger on the far touch line - a try to them!
The surprising thing about today was how little Yere did throughout the game. He took so little part in the action that he might have been resting himself. Perhaps it was a good job he did.
With regard to the ref, up to the brawl and the subsequent sin binning I thought he was having a decent game, apart from not giving any forward passes - from either side. (Don't the touch judges ever signal for forward passes?). After the brawl we got very ragged and he penalised us a lot, sometimes maybe a little harshly. But by that time the match was well and truly over anyway.

I think we have had a cracking division this year.
Fev on their day are still the team setting the standard.
After them you have the others in the top 6.
Out of these virtually every game you go to you just don't know what the result will be.
What could be better at our level, I for one am going to enjoy it while it lasts.

I think ruggerbeleeg has hit in correct. Todays game was lost at 4.30pm last Sunday IMO. The effort we put in last week and then to see the match snatched away in the final minutes took its toll, both physically and mentally.
Rubbish, this is playoff rugby. Play hard or go home. And that's happened to Batley today. Kear mentioned on radio that the playoffs started at Halifax! This has not happened. Batley fail so many times by backing up the last big performance. ( last week for 60mins).
Great effort by all for finishing in the top 6. But we need to go a step further to be up with the so called big boys.

Coolie, as a fully grown adult I do not require a dummy, nor do I sleep in a cot. This may be also tru of you if you ever grow up.

john gave his views to his coaching staff before going to london for super league full time.Pity JK didn't talk to Radio Leeds after the game instead sending a member of the coaching staff out.It would have been interesting to hear his thoughts.
Can't say i'm suprised by the result but certainly the final score.Plenty to work on though and on reflection not a bad season for the dogs, i'm sure you'll be up there again next season.

If Black doesn't fire the team doesn't fire, we really do need to work on some decent attacking moves completely
sterile in the last quarter of the field,no pace in centres Walton needs to be back in the forwards IMO.

Oh one more thing, Walmsley's break - Fantastic and at that stage of the game quite funny when it all went t*ts up just after and then we scored the first try and the chant of "we want twelve" started, great fun. Already looking forward to the next and best season ever.....

It's time to get optimistic for next season now. I'm sure that we'll improve, as Kear seems to have pinpointed the areas in which we need to improve and is already recruiting towards that goal. We're not far from being a very good side that can compete for honours. I'm not reading into Sunday's defeat too much - that performance wasn't representative of those over the course of the season. Players who've given us great service throughout the league campaign were made to look amateurish on Sunday, however one shocking game doesn't mean that we are collective no-hopers. We've shown that we have more than enough quality to compete with the top sides on a regular basis and just need that extra little bit of quality in certain areas to push us onto the next level.

Agree totally, good post Harold. We have to use perspective here. When JK joined we had no players signed, HE didn't really know 'bout the Championship intensity. So from nothing to this NOW we have had a great season. JK , as you say, is fully aware of our poor areas, and is actively trying to do something about it.This means that some of our stalwart, reliable players may be moving, unfortunately this is how it is. But they will, whoever they are , be always welcome at the 'Mount', and wished good luck for the future. But at the moment a lot of this is heresay,as I don't believe anyone has actually been announced as leaving yet, so lets look forward knowing that our team, once again, will be improved and look forward to another great season in 2013.Forget Karl Harrison, John Kear and even Daryl Powell (all good in their own right), the best coach in the Championship is Mark Aston. I don't like the guy, but he's built a very good team at Sheffield from very little at Sheffield, and is an absolute master at building his team for the business end of the season. QLT, Taulapapa and Yere are obvious stars, but in actual fact they have an excellent team from 1-17 with players that, apart from the three stand-outs I mentioned, are massively underrated. The likes of Joe Hirst, Stringer, Howieson, Henderson, Szostak etc. are all terrific for them.
