Soft on Matai

How come just the one game ban?
It may not have been a shoulder charge but he did contact Sam Perrett's head. I thought the judiciary were tough on this sort of thing.
This isn't Matai's first offence. He's been in front of the judiciary many many times.
Hopefully Manly will appeal this and give the board chance to double his penalty to two games.

King charged with the shittest high shot ever
They should be fired for being unrealistic
Matai's recorded history -
Thread title would seem to be accurate13 charges in 5 years copping 21 weeks in total !

Manly coach Geoff Toovey wants NRL players to band together and pressure the ARLC into overhauling the judiciary system.
Toovey remained bemused that he would be without strike centre Steve Matai for Friday's elimination semi-final against North Queensland after the defending premiers reluctantly accepted an early guilty plea for a grade two careless high tackle.

Surely he can't make the side in good enough shape to play properly this weekend.
Can it be that Manly are just trying to keep Cowboys guessing or does he have a realistic chance of playing and acquitting himself well?
The fact Manly didn't appeal the Matai ban seems to say that looking beyond their bluster they know Matai was let off lightly.

Toovey said even if Lyon hadn't fully recovered by Friday he would likely still play him given the importance of the clash.
"Well, it's a do-or die," Toovey said.
"It's not a risk thing. He's done the damage on it now. He can't do anymore damage to it.

That's either 'temmpting fate' or 'famous last words'!
