[HunsletHawks]

Hunslet Hawks RLFC would like to thank club stalwart Barry Sirrs who has stepped down as club timekeeper and statistician after a numbers of years service to the club back from the 1980’s to date.

He has been looking to retire for a number of years and the club have finally managed to get a replacement for the role. Long standing supporter of the club Tony Holmes has kindly agreed to take on this role.

Tony will take up his duties from the 2013 season, Barry will always be welcome at the club and will be offered a season ticket for life in recognition of his services to the club.

Like the word stalwart-- it's better than what some people would call me.
Started doing the timekeeping in 1974 when Jerry Mason asked me to cover for the then timekeeper who was going on holiday-- and I'm still doing it.
My thanks to all the great players - coaches and supporters I have known, and to my fellow timekeepers at all the other clubs I have never known any of them try to cheat.
My thanks to HIST for giving me a life membership season ticket-- it will give me the chance to watch games from the top deck..
and I will still be on this Forum.

Beating Widnes in the Silk Cut Plate semi, and beating Dewsbury in the Grand Final.

have been asked who is the best coach, and the best player I have known at Hunslet since 1974-- if I must give a answer- coach DAVID WARD-- player GRAHAM KING.--- would be interested in other peoples views.

will still do the stats for my own benefit, and anyone else thats interested. The club now have another stats man..
Understand the clubs new website will have all the stats I have done since 1974-- thanks to Pat B-- (can never spell her surname )

Yes the website will have all your stats Frisky going back to 1974 once we can figure out how to get them on there!

I think we will be the only club in the RFL with them kind of statistics, its a great piece of History for the club.

Frisky, could you provide me with the club honors going back as far as you can? that would be great to get on the website too!!

Well done Barry.I remember when you used to write the Hunslet feature in the old style Rugby Leaguer .As regards players got to agree its Graham King but must disagree about David Ward, in fact it was Wardy who seemed to not rate kingy and preferred Roy Milton and even the useless Ricky Lulham once!

Not sure about that. Milton played when Kingy was injured for a while. I remember sat in a stand somewhere and Milton was sat behind me with his girlfriend when Kingy came back from injury and straight back into the team. I can remember his girlfriend saying to him "Don't start getting upset". Kingy was a certain starter. My childhood hero

Wardy even signed Bungalow and played him week after week when we had the likes of Bateman, Skerett and Andy Sykes who should have been an absolute worldbeater with the right coaching and gave Nickle away to sheffield for 18k which was absolute bobbins in them days.Sorry, but Paul Daley got far more out of the players than Wardy did imo.

Roy's landlord at my local, the Hightown in Cas'. He tells a story of when Wardy nutted him in a pub in Morley over a "selection dispute".

Kingy was the greatest but my childhood hero was Jimmy Crampton. I cried my eyes out when he left for Hull. As I was a ball boy at the time I sort of knew him, knowing I was upset he rang me to explain the reason for the move. Top bloke (though very embarrassing when I saw him at the Allstar game).

Favourite coach was Daley, again as a ball boy you were always around the changing rooms and I remember been in awe at how this little bloke could shout and swear at guys twice his size.

Mason helped get us promoted though. Liked Paul Daley as well. Andy Sykes was a bit of a psycho bouncer like Stan Warriner. Imagine getting £18k for a player now. Thanks Jean Marc Bosman!
