"It is impossible not to feel a twinge of sympathy for Workington Town, the fall guys this season for the Super League's determination to retain it's European dimesion, in the shape of Paris. While the French have had every assistance to survive, the importance of having a flagship in a heartland area like West Cumbria has been conveniently forgotten." - Dave hadfield - Independent 25th Augsut 1996.

Where they get this super confidence from beats me. Okay we are going into the game without two of our star players and they have McAvoy back, so maybe it does give them a bit of an advantage, but we will still be fielding the bulk of the team that has beaten them four times this season.
I have seen haven six times this season, four times live and twice on the telly, and they only put in one decent performance which was the last time we played them. Let's not forget that these world beaters are the same team that Skolars were strolling through a couple of weeks ago, the same team that were getting a dogging from the fans, john Cox and the BOD.
Maybe it will be their turn to win today, who knows, but if we manage to beat them for the fifth time without some of our top players it will be all the more satisfying. Let's just hope we give everything we have, players and supporters alike. I hope some of the fans who have gone walkabouts recently get themselves down to DP and get behind a team that have been fantastic for the majority of the season.
Looking at our crowds and havens this season you start to wonder if West Cumbria has the appetite for a better class of RL next season.

They are all supposed to be congregating at the Town end today - ah shame it must be too noisy on the pop side for them, they like it nice and quiet when they watch a game don't they. Quiet and wet at the Town end today then!!

Hope the rain doesn't spoil it after all this! If it stays like this it will be even more of a lottery who wins.

If they choose to stand at the Town end it will let them see what it has been like for Town fans standing on the open side at Haven for years!!!!!
